ALAMEDA PARKS - KRUSI PARK
ALAMEDA PARKS - KRUSI PARK The land that Krusi Park is found now was once a marshland on the Bay. The Krusi family gave the land to the city of Alameda in the 1937. It opened during the Second World War but wasn't completed until the late 1950's. The city named the park land in honor of the Krusi family in 1938.

Ida and Hermann Krusi were local philanthropists and were champions of a park in the vicinity of the south shoreline area. They made a large donation to the city of Alameda to an unemployment relief fund during the depression. Mrs. Krusi belonged to a pioneering Alameda family, the Clawiters. Hermann Krusi was a expert in dredging and harbor construction. He oversaw the excavation which turned the Alameda peninsula into an island.

In 1954 a master plan was created to redevelop Krusi Park. New ball fields, tennis courts, play areas and picnic area and a small recreation building were built on the site. A children's area was dedicated as the "Ida Krusi Memorial Tiny Tot Area." At the same time a new school, Otis School, was recently open at an adjoining site.
Krusi Park is a busy park where adults and kids play ball, use the play equipment and picnick. A recent addition to Krusi Park is a boulder with a plaque commemorating the 1985 Babe Ruth World Series Champs, an Alameda team whose home field was Krusi Park.

Alameda Parks - Krusi Park is just one of a number of fine parks scattered throughout Alameda. You may want to visit my blogs about Lincoln Park, Jackson Park, McKinley Park, Washington Park, Franklin Park and Longfellow Park.

One of the really nice things about living in Alameda are the various parks all over the island so that no one is far from a recreational park. I live across Little John Park. And I love the fact that it's such a happy place where people play softball, have picnics. etc. From time to time the Coast Guard men (I believe they're Coast Guard) play soccer for exercise.
I understand it used to be the parking lot for Del Monte Cannery at one time. Glad it's a park! Love the view from my front door.
