Tony, I proudly fly the American flag out in front of my office.
We just bought a new flag recently.
I think it was during the Vietnam War and "the whole world has gone wrong" movement and protests in the '60s and '70s.
Mike, Thank you!
Joshua, Cool!
Eric, I think that you're right.
I’m all for being patriotic since my dad was a Marine, but elevating the flat to idol status, something to be worshipped, is wrong. It’s just a flag! It's more important to actually participate in society as a helpful citizen than it is to worship a symbol.
Jim, I disagree, for me it is the symbol of all that America stands for. I just think that it is wrong to bring it down to where it has been brought to. I believe that it should be something to look up to, when I said sacred, I meant something that is respected, not adored nor worshiped, but certainly and ideal that if lived up to should help make us better people and citizens.
I have no problem with clothing that is red, white and starry similar to the flag - so long as it doesn't look like a flag was used to make the item.
If you didn't fly a flag on Flag Day, consider it a reminder to get ready to do so on July 4.
Remember how many flags were displayed right after 9/11?
Jim, I agree with the clothing, I have no problem wearing the colors, just so that they're not the flag nor look like the flag. It is a great reminder to fly the flag! I do remember it was quite a sight!
