Many of us wonder where Americans are moving from and to in the United States. I recently investigated the Phoenix, AZ, Migration Patterns with Forbes Migration Map tool that tells you exactly that, where people move from and to in the US.

Human migration is the movement of people from one place to another. People generally move for what they see as a permanent move or sometimes just a planned stay before moving on or back, this type of migration is covered in the Forbes Tool. This tool is extremely useful for real estate professionals who want to understand where people are moving from and to. For example, you want to use the map to show your clients the changing population patterns in a specific county by comparing it to the changing population patterns of a neighboring county.  Others may choose to target specific counties that seem to have many people moving out of and into their specific county.

Population Migrations can be a great indicator for investors to consider when choosing markets to invest in also.  Most investors want to buy property where people are moving to and not moving away from.

Click on any county you wish to see the movements of people from and to that county
The red lines represent outward movement
The black lines represent inward movement

If you want to know whether your local housing market and economy are attracting people to your county, you can click on the specific county and see whether there are more black lines than red lines, or if more people are leaving the county more than going in you will see more red lines than black lines
