Santa Clara County Saves Prop 90!

I received an email message yesterday from Supervisor Yeager advising of good news!

The motion to maintain Santa Clara County’s participation in the Proposition 90 program passed unanimously on Tuesday, June 14, 2011.

Supervisor Yeager is an advocate for seniors. He "supports Prop. 90 because it preserves the affordability of housing for seniors moving into Santa Clara County to downsize or be closer to children or grandchildren."

Supervisor Yeager feels that "Seniors are more likely to move and buy a new home under Prop. 90, helping the recovery of our local real estate market. New residents that come to Santa Clara County as a result of Prop. 90 provide a stimulus to the County’s economy through their spending."

Hats off for saving Prop. 90 in Santa Clara County! That is good news; good for the local real estate market; and good for seniors!

Kathleen - Prop 90 is very important to seniors. The ability to take their current tax basis with them when they purchase a home of equal or lower value is the lifeline allowing many seniors to move to smaller homes. The thought of an increase in annual property taxes while living on limited income would keep many seniors from making a change in residences.

Norma, Thank you for providing an explanation of Prop 90. I cannot believe I did not include that in my post!

John, So many counties that used to participate dropped out. So few left in California. It would be a shame if either San Mateo or Santa Clara lost it! Thanks for stopping by.

Wow, Kathleen, that's great news for seniors looking to buy homes for sale in Santa Clara county. Hopefully, more cities/counties will get that incentives are needed to help in this crazy real estate market.

Juli, I agree. Unfortunately many counties in California have already stopped participating in Prop 90. It clearly is a win-win however far too many just don't get it! Thanks for stopping by.
