Personally, this day has always meant a lot to me. When I was a young kid...it meant birthday cake and presents...when I was a young adult in my 20's and early 30's..it meant the excuse to have a big beer party...sometimes too big...too wasteful...too stupid.
But through it all, as soon as I was old enough to understand the significance of Flag Day, I have known that my birthday is not really my day...sure, it is the day I was born on...but it is so much more important than my Birthday.
And to this moment, I am humbled by the significance of the Flag and of Flag Day. (I hope I always will be...like I was when I photographed this beautiful flag flying in Columbus, NE.)
Each day that I fly my American flag, it almost brings tears to my eyes when I put it up and when I take it down.
Each time I am always overwhelmed...including today, when I saw it flying on our home as I rounded the corner from an overnight business trip..I was overwhelmed with pride for those stars and stripes.
Each time I am reminded of the sacrifices so many have made so that my family and I can have the right to fly that flag.
So that my family and I have the chance to celebrate another birthday...So that my family and I have a chance to live in the greatest country in the world.
I am so happy that my 16 year old daughter hung our flag up today since I was gone. We try to fly it as much as possible...which isn't always possible because of the wind where we live.
I know that many people do not understand my emotions...nor care about them...or the flag...or their freedoms that were earned by the blood and sweat of hundreds and millions that worked or fought to give us the chance to be who we are.
Many people do not know the origin of Flag Day. Here is a link if you are one of them.

As for me as this great day draws to a close...
I Pledge Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and To the Republic for Which It Stands, One Nation, Under God, Indivisible, with Liberty, and Justice For ALL.
Until Next Time...
