As a proud holder of some of these designations, I make sure my clients understand that this higher level of understanding was done purely so that I might better help them.

I've got most of those letters and have had for years.  No one cares!  Except me.  I don't think anyone other than an occasional "newbie" Realtor has ever asked what any of it means.  I do include a explanation sometimes in our marketing presentations.

Hi Mary, I wish I had more time to get some more,  I have ABR and proud of it, but need to find time for CRS.

Great post, Mary. I believe these things are included to benefit the ego of the holder. This is real estate, not rocket science. What is the designation for giving great service and putting the interest of your clients above your own? I hold designations and have never been asked for any other them before working with a buyer or a seller in 20 years. But, I still keep myself upgraded and educated ;^)"

Unless the initals are MD or PHD, I don't think many people know or care.  I am a former nurse, should I put RN after my name? lol  Have a great day.

I hold ABR,GRI and GREEN. I think it tells us who is full time and who is doing it as a weekend hobby. No designations, no refferal from me.

Mary, I believe a designation (or several), shows a clear commitment to the industry and their business or can be used as a niche, like the ABR, who work with buyers. I have several designations and they have served me well.

Hi Mary - I can't remember the last time, if ever, a client showed any curiosity about those designations. Dick Greenberg, EIEIO

I don't think people care about the designations, Mary, they just want to know what YOU personally can do and how you do it. They also want to know that you care about them.

Mary,

Studying to know the values and needs of our clients seems valuable.  Not sure how many understand the designations though.

Best,

Steve

Mary ~ I intend to receive some of the above designations (on my to do list for this year) but I intend to pursue them for the educational value (sometimes I think the designations are more for the Realtor community than the clients.)

Good morning everyone,  Thanks for commenting. This is one of the slides in my PP to start the discussion about the services we offer & how to present them to the consumer.  I appreciate all opinions expressed here.

I will be back with more specific comments after I teach Sales class today.

I think it will benefit you for referrals from other realtors. They may hold the same designation or just want to know that you are an agent who wants to do the best job that she can for her clients... and is willing to spend the time and money to do so!

So true, Joni.  Often the consumer does not understand the alphabet lingo, but the Realtors do.  Referrals go from agent to agent (really broker to broker) but they want agent who has similar designation, education and work ethic.   Someone who has made the commitment to get the education and stay up to date.  Thanks for stopping by today.
