Web search Interest over time Seattle-Tacoma (Metro, Washington): zero energy, energy-efficient, built green

In a recent test I ran comparing the popularity of search terms over time comparing the terms Built-Green, energy-efficiency and zero-energy for the Seattle metro marketplace from 2004-2011 I found there was a noticeable upward trend for zero-energy searches. See the full chart.

I think this is a good example of how key words fall out of favor or perhaps become mainstream  and lose their ranking power or another way for me to look at it is are people searching for energy efficiency really looking at going beyond that and searching for zero-energy.

In our past hi-performance green home marketing for Martha Rose Construction we had consistently used the word “energy-efficient,” at that time Energy Star was perhaps the most energy-efficient brand on the market why not ride on their shirt tails.

Coincidentally, each of the new home communities built by Martha Rose Construction was becoming progressively more energy-efficient over their last projects. The steady improvements in design, equipment, site orientation and building techniques have put them on the edge of becoming closer to zero-energy homes.

The new homes, City Cabins on Queen Anne Hill, in Seattle have been modeled to reach the lower end of the energy scale, it has yet to be determined if there is enough solar energy to achieve the a true net-zero energy cost.

This doesn’t change the way the homes are being built, an extremely tight thermal envelope and a super insulation package are some of the key components to help eliminate energy costs, and this is where the Rose team excels.

City Cabins are being built with double wall exterior construction filled with 7 ½” of blown-in fiberglass insulation, 1” blue foam board, 1/2 “ of CDX plywood, 2 layers of moisture barrier paper, and lap siding.

City Cabins are currently under construction and will are available for pre-sale, for more information contact Adrian Willanger 206 909-7536 or visit CityCabins.com.
