Idaho Snake House

By

I was breezing through the newspaper this morning and saw an article that drew my attention. This is one of those stories, and properties, that those of us in any aspect of real estate want to avoid and not be associated with. In Idaho they call it the Rexburg Snake House.

Apparently there are hundreds to thousands of garter snakes living in walls, crawl space and coming out into the house., etc. You can click on the link below to see an Idaho TV stations take on the latest.

And a link to the AP story is down below as well.

Apparently this house has been sold more than once and people have freaked-out and then bailed-out on the deal. It would be interesting to know if the problem was not disclosed to some buyers or if they thought that they could deal with a problem that others could not.

This creeps me out in no small way. That would definitely be a 'hidden defect' in my book.

I saw that story, Steven! What a creepy house! I think the bank should bulldoze the house and write it off.

They're a harmless and beneficial snake. Maybe they should just turn the house and property into a snake and wildlife habitat? Can you make any money selling these snakes? Maybe there is a business opportuity that comes with this house?

My husband actually saw this article, as well. When he met the real estate agent at the house he was getting ready to inspect, he told her about it. They both had a good chuckle and a few squeamish moments, then it was back to business.  However, I bet they both "thought" they saw slithering and heard hissing at every corner.  LOL ~ Jennifer the IHI Home Inspections Girl

Garter snakes are environmentally a good thing. It could be worse, like if they were rattlers. But I still would rather not have them in my house. Snakes creep me out.

I have heard about and read about this house.  It does seem interesting, but must be a boon to science to try to figure out what it is that has them living so prolifically in the house.

Steve,

I actually like snakes so it don't creep me out. They do tend to congregate like that. But it is better if it was outside and not in the home. You are correct on the Rattlers though do want to run in to a pile of them (without a shovel in my hand).

Don,

You are a bigger weirdo than I thought, and that makes you pretty enormous.

Snakes don't bother me unless they are poisonous. I think Charlies right send in the squirrel.
