I want to send an early Congratulations to the Class of 2011....tomorrow is your big day.
Souhegan High School Graduation - 412 Boston Post Road, Amherst, NH
Commencement Ceremony Begins at 5:00pm
Students in Souhegan High School's Class of 2011 may have a restless nights sleep. Tomorrow is the grand finale and celebration of successfully completing a significant educational milestone. Whoo hoo!
Do you remember your high school graduation? Oh, I remember mine....Greenwood High School Class of 1983. I thought June of 1983 would never arrive and then, I blinked. Now I'm looking forward to my 30th high school reunion in just 2 years. Wow.
Souhegan High School Seniors: In the days ahead you will celebrate this fantastic achievement and in the years ahead will look back and remember the faces that have become synonymous with Souhegan High School. This community of teachers, aides, administrators, students, friends, BFFs, teammates and underclassmen have come together to weave a fabric that will be with you forever.
I remember hearing our comencement speaker admonish my classmates and me to always strive to learn more, to seek out knowledge and always be a student. Likewise Mom and Dad tried to impress upon me the value of an education, but even more importantly, the value of continuing education and being a life-long learner.
Those axioms and admonishments didn't fully sink in until years later. Think of all the times we've said, "If I knew then what I know now." That just may be a "truism" that sticks with you no matter your age.
I ran across a quote in a recent graduation speech that stuck with me and I thought I'd share it. You guys may not know who Dr. Ruth Westheimer is, but how could I pass up a chance to quote her? If you don't know who Dr. Ruth is, Google it.
From Dr. Ruth...
"My favorite animal is the turtle. The reason is that in order for the turtle to move, it has to stick its neck out. There are going to be times in your life when you're going to have to stick your neck out. There will be challenges and instead of hiding in a shell, you have to go out and meet them!"
I love that Dr. Ruth, and take her advise to heart even now. After all, my daughter Julia graduates tomorrow and I'll have my own "challenges" as she heads off to the University of Vermont in August. Congratulations Julia, I love you and I'm so proud of you!
Congratulations and good luck to all of the Souhegan High School Seniors!
