Does reblogging an article help or hurt?
Reblogging is a benefit to both the original writer and the reblogger. The Google juice flows freely for both parties. The blog post gets exposure from another person's following.
Reblogging has been a controversial topic here on Activerain. It was started, then stopped, and then came back. As many of you know, I'm a very prolific blogger and I've had a good run of featured articles lately. The topics have been timely and as a result, I've had a lot of people reblog the articles I wrote. I've had people agree and disagree with my article when they reblogged. So the question is, does rblogging help or hurt both Activerain and my blog?
As far as I'm concerned, I find them all to be a great compliment. Why? Because whatever I wrote got the reader thinking enough to write more. That makes me feel good. Even if they don't agree, it clearly hit a chord with them. I get more exposure and people read more of my articles - not just the one that was reblogged. I even pick up new subscribers, which is a strong indication of the quality of the article that got reblogged. Some people turn off comments when they reblog and send them back to my original article. Others will keep their comments on. To acknowledge their effort, I always stop by to thank the person for the reblogging. It helps reinforce my appreciation of their effort - especially if they had a lot of additional content to add.
There are those who feel reblogging is a bad thing and I think it has to do with diminishing the value of the original article. So far, I haven't seen that. I've had a few articles reblogged recently that got thousands of views and were reblogged over 20 times. Those reblogs don't appear to have hurt my SEO, viewership, other anything else that I feel matters. So, why do some people not like the idea of reblogging? Good question. If you know, I'd like to hear it. Perhaps it comes down to ettiquette. Here are some suggestions on how to reblog:
- Send a note to the original article author saying you were reblogging
- Add value with your reblog - something more than just "This is a cool article, check it out."
- Post a comment on the original article (don't include a link to your reblog)
- If you're just adding value but want to help the original author, turn off comments
Again, I find all the reblogs I get to be a compliment. Thanks to all of those who reblog my articles and I hope to write more "reblog worthy" articles soon.
