ActiveRain whhhhhhhhhat???

Please help me understandwhat does the term ActiveRain have anything to do with real estate.  If you can shed any light on this dilemma that keeps me awake nights PLEASE do so.  I am frustrated and feel so alone that I am the only one that fails to understand the significance.

Are other agents the only ones that read this stuff?  If so how is that supposed to help us increase our business.  (Hi other agents, truly I appreciate you, I really do) OK maybe not all other agents but those that....well that will be my next blog.

Is this just another way to network myself to death until I'm networking in my sleep also.  I mean I go home at night and get on here and then it's just considered more work?  Do you think I can find a way to deduct internet time.  That would be fantastic as I think half my life is spent on it.

Ahhhhh well if anyone has any knowledge on that question that plaques me I would appreciate a response so I can finally get sleep at night.  Signing off knowing nothing............Heather

Seriously, wondering about ActiveRain's name keeps you up, how lucky you are in your life and profession.

Heather, being either too lazy or just not interested enough to find out, I calmed my own curiosity by assuming it was and acronym for ACTIVE Real estate Agent Information Network.  Any AR staffers around?  Did I get close?

LOL at Gaylen!

Heather, there is more to Active Rain than networking with other real estate professionals.  Write about your local area and post to Localism...consumers will find you there!  Read the Guidelines at the bottom of the page to get an idea of the "rules".  And read other posts to find out the kind of information others are sharing with the consumer.  With very few exceptions, everyone here is blogging for business!

I believe it has to do with being a "Rainmaker".

10/12/2007 04:37 PM by John Leach (The Lending Company, Inc.)

It comes from the term "Rainmaker"

  • Informal. One who is known for achieving excellent results in a profession or field, such as business or politics.
  • One who is believed to be capable of producing rain, as through magical or ritual actions.

I have no clue either. I just figured they needed some catchy name that didn't necessarily mean anything really.

Heather, I am glad I found your question about the name.   I was wondering the same thing but assumed everyone already knew.    Maybe a lesson learned for me here.    There is no harm in asking.

I also find everyone here helpfull and always willing to share their thoughts and opinions.  Pros and Cons are presented.   It is up to us to decide what is our personal truth.

Like others mentioned, it comes from rainmaker. Don's creative answer works out real well too, but don't forget about the lenders, title reps, stagers, VAs, and all of the others that make up the community.

    Hi Heather,
I think many people do not understand why the name but once it is explained, it makes sense, doesn't it?

I would have to know where the history in the term rainmaker is from to understand.

Active Rain has done so much for me. What good does it do? I'm a slightly better writter, I send posts along to be published in the local papers, you'll be surprised when potiential clients start calling you from A.R. and the stuff I've learned is amazing.

    Heather,

Just noticed your background, since I found you had subscribed to my blog. Neat to see you are from Whatcom County. I do lots of inspections in Lynden.  Active Rain can help you immensely as far as your online visibility, but you have to know how to use it and work at it.
