The Sugar Land Police Department will hold a Child ID event for children age 2 to 14 Tuesday, June 21, through Thursday, June 23, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Complete with the child's name, picture, thumbprint and parent's contact information, the ID cards are tools in assisting law enforcement officers in locating a missing child more quickly because all of the child's vital information and photo is immediately available.

"If your child is missing, answering a series of questions about their physical appearance requires valuable time that could be better utilized to find your child," said Officer Lauren Stockholm of SLPD's Crime Prevention Unit. "People in these situations are often frantic and confused, which is why having an easily accessible child ID can be a valuable tool. Law enforcement and others need proper identification that is immediately available before they can take action."

The fingerprint cards are free, ink-free and take about five minutes to complete. The cards are not considered official identification, no records are kept by SLPD and parents must accompany children. Crime prevention officers will attend the event to answer questions and hand out informational pamphlets.

The event will be held at the Sugar Land Police Department, located at 1200 SH 6.

To RSVP, call Officer Stockholm at 281-275-2956.
