Father's Day: 54th Annual Classic, Antique & Collector Car Show Car Show

The theme for 2011 is “Year of the Chrysler" and the “Inner Circle” features Chrysler Town & Country cars from the 1940s.
One of the oldest car shows in America, the 54th Classic, Antique, & Collector Car Show at Stan Hywet is an annual Father’s Day tradition and takes place on Sunday, June 19 from 9am – 4:30pm. This show features classic, antique and collector cars –more than 350 automobiles manufactured between 1896 and 1978 will be on display in 25 separate classes. Judges will award prizes in each class for first, second, and third place.

The “Inner Circle” cars are Full Classic® cars and the manufacture of each car is documented, including the original owner. This year, the Inner Circle features Town & Country Chryslers from the 1940s, a car that represents the craftsmanship of a bygone era. Town and Country cars were introduced in 1941 as Chrysler’s answer to a need for an upscale and more formal station wagon. Distinctive with handcrafted wood paneling, it was the posh car to own. Production was limited during World War II. It was popular after the war, but the wood paneling was high maintenance, and many owners traded in their Town & Country for something more practical. Tastes were changing: metals cars were deemed “in,” wooden cars, “out.” Chrysler ceased production of the Town & Country in 1950.

Prices for the 2011 Car Show are as follows:

$12 Adult Non-Member | $9 Adult Member | $5 Youth Non-Member (6-17 yrs) | $4 Youth Member (6-17 yrs) | Children 5 & under are free

Parking:
Handicapped parking is available at Stan Hywet (you must have a state of Ohio handicapped parking tag). Otherwise, there is no onsite parking for Car Show, but there is free parking and free shuttle from offsite parking. Parking areas are Firestone High School, 333 Rampart Ave.; Essex Elementary School 1160 Winhurst Dr.; and the Riverpark Building, 1653 Merriman Road.

What a Car - The Great Days of Detroit!

My Dad owned several antique cars when I was a kid; we used to spend a lot of time at shows.
