Just Pure Fun: Virgin America Launches #nerdbird
Time for an attitude adjustment.
After a month of slogging in the trenches, coping with tornadoes, testy tempers, and tough triathlon training, the sun has come out and I've decided it is time to add some fun to my blogging. Time to venture out from under the rain hood and look for some bright spots in the stratosphere. Time to celebrate innovation and just pure fun.
Care to join me?
To kick off this twist in outlook, I am sharing with you an article about Virgin America, which recently dedicated the 39th plane in its fleet to the techno-fans who fly its popular flights to San Francisco and Boston. The plane is branded with its own Twitter hashtag: #nerdbird.
Can you stand it?
This is fun, and it's a tribute to the social media drivers who are changing the face of technology, business, and communications. It's as good as having a semi-private social media limo in the sky. Can you imagine the energy on that plane? Who wouldn't want to fly #nerdbird? And once on board, who is going to want to leave? I predict great networking opportunities aboard #nerdbird.
Not to mention, this creative approach comes from the company created by Sir Richard Branson. I confess to being a fan of this very smart gentleman, who launched Virgin Records only slightly before my friends and I made our teenage plunge into rock-n-roll music. Branson has entrepreneured the Virgin brand from music to air to mobile to comics to biofuel. This man doesn't miss a trick.
So, now on my list of things to do is to enjoy a flight aboard #nerdbird. Who wants to go to San Francisco?
