San Diego - Take Dad to Point Loma for Father's Day!

Did you know Father's Day got started because Sonora Smart Dodd, of Spokane, WA, wanted to honor her Dad?  He raised her because her mother had passed away.  There was already a Mother's Day and she wanted a special day for Fathers.  Good idea Sonora.  My own father has played a HUGE part in my life, thanks Dad!

If you are here in the San Diego area on Father's Day take him to Point Loma.  Why?  Because there are a couple of fun events he would like.  Plus, there are lots of great restaurants so when you're ready for a good meal you do have lots of choices.

The 21st Annual San Diego Wooden Boat Show presented by Koehler Kraft is happening on Shelter Island.  9AM to 4PM at the Koehler Boat Yard  Wooden Boat Show Website There is a $5 admission fee but all proceeds from the event go to a very deserving charity, Challenged America.  There are dozens of gorgeous wooden boats, both in the water and "on the hard".  Some are For Sale so you might want to bring your credit card.  There is also live music, food (we had the hamburgers which were great, and you can board most of the boats.  A small steam boat will take you for a free ride, bring your camera.  Here is a slide show I made from our visit today.............

Brunch with Shamu, again not right in Point Loma but just a few minutes away at Seaworld, 500 Seaworld Drive, Park Admission (about $70 I think) + $29 to $59, two servings 9AM or 11:30AM  Click for more info.  Seaworld not only showcases Shamu but they just opened a new Turtle Reef adventure.  During summer, fireworks happens every night at 9:50PM!

Humphrey's Resort Jazz Brunch, 2241 Shelter Isalnd Drive, (619) 224-3577.  10AM to 2PM Beautiful location, Humphrey's website, fantastic food, great music.  Humphrey's has one of the most popular brunches every Sunday.  They make a terrific event even more extra special on holidays.  Dad will love this!
