The Zacchaeus Tree at First Baptist Church of New Port Richey-Florida

I think just about everyone who grew up going to bible study classes as children knows the story of Zacchaeus; he collected taxes for the Romans in a town called Jericho. Everyone in his town hated him because he was very rich and they weren’t. They resented the Romans and Zacchaeus.

The Z dude found out that a rock star was coming to Jericho (the rock star being Jesus, of course) and since he was really, really short, Z knew he wouldn’t be able to see over the crowd; that, indeed, they probably would make sure he couldn’t see . He climbed a tree in order to be able to see Jesus.  As you all know, the fact that Jesus wanted to stay at the tax-collector’s  house was a life-changing experience for the Z dude. If you want to read the whole story; take a look at this charming children’s version written by Paul Dellgas-Frey.

This lovely old tree sits in the front yard of First Baptist Church in New Port Richey, Florida, and has a plaque that says: The Zacchaeus Tree.

How aptly named she is; she even has step branches to help Zacchaeus climb up.

Toni--Wow!  That tree would be great inspiration for many biblical stories.   I am sure the tree has its own story to tell, too.

I am wishing you a wonderful Sunday. Thanks for your messages to me even when I don't have time to respond.

I have long known the story, but have never thought of a tree that looked like this.  It would make a perfect climbing and sitting tree.  Thanks for sharing!

Hello Toni,

In Michigan we call those trees a "wolfs head". Don't ask me why. LOL

Nice story and good post.

Have a nice day.

A fitting name for an interesting tree and a good reminder that anyone who seeks Jesus will find him (Prov 8:17)!

Howdy and evening to you Toni

Toni,
that sure is one mighty fine looking tree, in the front yard of the First Baptist Church there in New Port. The base looks like a open hand, which sure makes the name mighty fitting.

Have a good one
