Smoky sunset in Saguaro National Park: Mike in Tucson, AZ mortgage lender

~ Smoky Sunset with Saguaro ~

The fires are sixty miles south of us, but this afternoon, the wind shifted, and a pall fell over the desert.  I was hiking the Valley View Trail in Saguaro National Park West (near Picture Rocks) when the sun went down, and all that smoke gave us an amazing sunset!

Here's what the horizon looked like at 7:00 p.m.:

Those fires are an amazing detriment to the environment.  The helplessness of man in the face of such destriction is sad.  Thank goodness nature will heal itself over the years.

WOW Mike! Those pictures are AMAZING! We've had our share of fires in the Houston area too because of the drought - thank God we are in for some rain this week!!

Mike that first picture is amazing.  You should have that framed and put up on a wall.

Mike, those photos are so awesome.  The circumstances allowing for those great photos is a shame.  The news just reported another 200 homes in Sierra Vista had to be evacuated.  I hope they're all safe and their homes are okay.

Great shots Mike.

What may I ask is on top of that cactus in photo 1? Looks like a birds nest of some sort.

Enjoy the day

Call a Marana neighbor, I'm THERE!

We had dinner in the foothills and when we arrived, the smoke was settled in the Tucson valley like a low laying cloud.  When we left, even all of Oro Valley was in the smokey fog.  It must be unbelievably thick at the source.  My heart goes out to residents, business, animals, and everyone working at the fire sites around Arizona.  Especially in this heat.  Those monsoons could come NOW and no one would complain!  BTW - love the photo

There has been a little smoke in Arizona recently, but it will soon end.

Good luck and success.

Mike - more great desert shots that make me wonder if you are in the wrong line of business. I don't know of anyone who takes better shots of the desert than you.

Larry,

You're so encouraging!  Keep it up!

Lou,

Seems like the whole state is on fire.

Chris,

I'm glad you like it!

Cara,

I'm with you on that!  Bring on the monsoons.

Don,

It's a Saguaro Cactus, and the crown is a circle of fruit that sets in June after the plant flowers in May.

Brett,

From your mouth to God's ears!

Julie,

We had to close our office in Sierra Vista!

Bill,

It's not good for the lungs.

Harry,

It's surreal, isn't it?

George,

I sent you the photo in a card.  Good talking to you.

Doreen,

Did they have to evacuate?

Maggie,

Send some our way!

Lenn,

The whole east side of the Chiricahuas is blackened.  That's what happened to Yellowstone a while ago, and it's coming back better than ever.  The ash fertilizes the ground.

Clint,

C'mon back and visit!

Steve,

Thanks!  I appreciate your encouragement.

Tim,

Thanks for being the first to comment!

Nice pics, as always. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Monsoon not scheduled to start here until July 4 -- they come a little later. But we had some nice, light, steady rain on Sunday, so I expect that means you are getting drenched!

Mike, I especially like the top photo "Smokey Sunset with Saquaro" because it has bright colors yet it has a softer feeling.
