Reflections from the Back Porch, Friday, 1 Dec 2006, “Misfits, loosers and angry loners”

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Noted Curmudgeons

Jay’s Coffee MugThis morning, Medford & I joined the “Misfits, loosers and angry loners” group, complete with the misspelled “loosers” (losers), a nice touch.  We joined because Realtor® Teresa pointedly invited us in her focus statement: “Codgers are always welcome.” Although she did not send us an invitation, we were more than a little intrigued by the title.

Opinionated old men (people, really) can be, and often are “misfits” ‘cause our opinions are often (quite happily) at odds with conventional wisdom. What an opportunity for us—a whole new venue to be cranky!

The boys at the coffee shop will absolutely love this concept!

Maybe it was the two empty chairs... maybe it was the misspelling somehow I knew it was the three of you as I was reading the description....  "codgers" clinched it... but can a Keller Williams agent be a misfit or angry loner?

For some reason as I quickly perused the new blog groups I was inexplicabley drawn to it....I was torn whether or not to join... whether I am a misfit...or an angry loner.... maybe it was the "looser" that beckoned me....

Hey, the coffee cup I can relate to, the Cyckle, Sickle? kinda scares me.  I'll have to go and check out all the new groups again.

Maureen: By all means join us! I anticipate a great deal of fun. The boys at the coffee shop are all a-twitter over the possibilities (that is, if cidgers can be all a-twitter at all).

WOW Bob! This group was initiated by one of the most positive & upbeat people I know, Teresa Boardman (whom I’ve known for many years). The group’s name is so totally opposite her personality, and is obviously tongue-in-cheek! By the way, a truly negative individual wouldn’t dream of joining this group—they can’t handle the irony!

I just liked the other people in the group.  I actually had to take a 3 part test yesterday to gain admittance.  I am not kidding.  Teresa said I passed.  I was worried about getting blackballed.  I don't really think anyone in our group will really be angry though.

Bob,

Your comment is great because it gives me the opportunity to explain something that the vast majority of the population does not understand and that is:

There is a huge difference between having a bad personality and being negative.  i am in no way negative but do have a bad personality.  It is not in my nature to run around all day with a smile on my face exclaiming how wonderful life is and going out of my way to find the positive in every situation.  I needed to form the group so that others like me could understand that we are all people too and just because we have bad personalities it does not mean that we are not good nice people with a lot to contribute.

Eagles don't flock they fly alone.

“Realtor®” Teresa: Don’t conflate not being “perky” (and running around with an insincere smile on your face) with “bad personality.”

KK & MM: “Realtor®” Teresa, Carole Cohen, Maureen & Dmitry, Kristal Kraft, Maureen McCabe, & Leanne Paynter, all are eagles, for sure. Medford & I are not familiar with Tricia Jumonville (yet), but she’s from the “Lone Star State,” and that alone says a passel!  Oh, and MM, The codgers had nothing to do with the formation of this group, other than providing a little encouragement with our collective cackling at the prospect.  We're just happy that we two old birds were encouraged to join.

I don't know the word "conflate" but will look it up and use it in conversation today if I am able to....  but I believe  I agree with Jay about fake perkyness,  without even knowing the exact definition of conflate.

I find a true voice to be a lot more interesting ....than the canned "perky"  you often find in the industry.

Thanks for forming the group Teresa.  I believe I should say Thanks for inspiring the group to the "old birds."

According to Webster: “Con-Flate (kәn-flāt΄) to combine or mix (two variant readings into a single text, etc.)”
