“Move That Bus!” ABC’s Emmy award winning reality program “Extreme Makeover Home Edition’s” catch phrase will soon be heard here in Northeast Georgia! Lake Country’s own Pilot Builders and Smart Properties, of Madison, are teaming up with Ty Pennington and the rest of the Extreme Makeover crew to surprise one deserving family with a home renovation or new home that few could only dream of.
Pilot Builders will design the home and Co-Founders Chris Hilsman and Doug Tumlin could not be more excited for the opportunity.
“We see this chance to help a family as the opportunity of a lifetime. It’s a huge challenge and we all know that it is going to be hard to pull off but our team and suppliers have all jumped on board and we’re ready,” Chris told me on Friday.
Hilsman and Tumlin founded Pilot Builders here on Lake Oconee over 13 years ago and Ryan Cathey, Chris’ stepbrother, is Owner/Operator of Smart Properties, which was founded in 2001. Both companies specialize in building exceptional custom homes whether it be here on Lake Oconee, Madison, or even in the Carolinas.
On June 30th a pep rally will be held in the area of the home chosen for those who are interested in volunteering for the project. To date the lucky family has not been revealed and they won’t know they’re chosen until July 10th when Ty Pennington personally knocks on their door. From there they’ll be whisked away on a week long dream vacation and construction will begin. In one week their lives will be forever changed as they’ll return from their dream vacation to what we all know will be an unbelievable new home.

Extreme Makeover Home Edition has just kicked off it’s 9th Season and will air Fridays this Fall at 8 p.m. on ABC.
