What's On Your Walls?
Sellers often want to know what they can do to help sell their home. The most important thing, of course, is to price it right. The second best and easiest is to invest in a fresh coat of paint. I recommend you check out the following blog by Debra Davis.
What’s On Your Walls?
As you look around your home evaluating how a buyer will be looking at it, look at the walls. The first thing you should do is make sure all the walls are clean. Make sure the trim is clean too. More than likely though, you will need to paint and make the rooms fresher.
Most people will suggest just painting all the walls off-white or builders white. Better than that though, go to a paint store and find out what the new “neutrals” are and use some of those colors to promote a warmer feeling in the house. You want the buyer to feel comfortable and at home. You can do this with the right colors.
Once you have the walls and trim freshly painted, consider the artwork that you will be hanging. A home looks better with some tasteful artwork and it doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. Bare walls are a turn off to a buyer.
When you are considering what to put back on the walls, think of the old masters paintings. It will help the home look richer and not so shoddy. But you must do it with taste. You can be guided by the artwork to add other colors to bring into the room for decoration.
You can buy prints of paintings done by the masters such as Degas, Renoir, Monet, Da Vinci, which are really quite inexpensive but give the look of adding dollars, and care to the décor.
It won’t be necessary to cover the wall in paintings, but just enough to add color and vitality to the room. Of course the artwork will not be sold with the house, but it makes a difference in staging the home to sell. Buyers will take just a little longer to look around. They may not realize the artwork is drawing them in, but it is. Just don’t overdo it.
