The Three Most Important Things In Blogging: Content, Content, Content
I think I finally get it!!! Over the weekend I wrote a blog post on the Bay Bridge that was featured on Active Rain. At first there were not many comments, but, then they started. I took time to reply back to each commenter and also to visit their profile, their blog and comment on a post they had written. Then there were more comments and I followed up on each and every one of them.
One of the commenters, Brent Kluge, had written a post about points on Active Rain. That got me to thinking about my own evolution as a blogger here on Active Rain.
I started blogging on Active Rain in November of 2007. When I started I really didn't understand what blogging was all about, let alone what points were about. Then I got interested in points since that determined whether or not I was a featured agent on AR.
My goal has changed since I started blogging on AR in 2007. It's not "all about the points" any more. I now focus on content ... the three most important words in blogging are content, content, content.
Sometimes it takes me a while to "get it". In the Bay Bridge blog I hit the sweet spot. The blog post had two great pictures (if I do say so myself), several links to relevant websites, was 300-500 words in length (458 to be specific, I just counted them using MS Word), and content, content, content.
One of the resources that I've found helpful and you might too is Penelope's Guide to Blogging. Tony Robbins once said "success leaves tracks". Penelope Trunk's guide to blogging (not to mention her career) are some great tracks to follow.
I've stopped worrying about points, I've started writting about what's important to me, and I'm focusing on content. So, I think I finally get it.
