Tarpon Springs Florida is indeed a Greek sponge diver's paradise! Tarpon Springs is the one town locally where you can go into almost any store and speak Greek! The local Greek sponge industry started around 1905 when the first Greek immigrants arrived in Tarpon Springs. At one time the sponge industry was more profitable locally than the citrus industry!
Today the town is popular with tourists who enjoy purchasing the sponges and sampling the fantastic Greek cooking in local restaurants!
Tarpon Springs Florida should be on your list of things to do while you are in the Clearwater area! The town offers a true sampling of Greek life and makes you think that you have been magically transported to the Greek islands of the Mediterranean!
While all of the restaurants offer excellent food, my personal favorite is Mykonos! I have tried them all and when I have guests in town, Mykonos is my destination! Give it a try while you are here!
