Michigan in the News...

Today, the first day of Summer, Governor Rick Snyder signed into Law the full Budget. This is the first time in a number of years that Michigan has had its budget before Oct.1st.

This is due to the governor's strong leadership and business experiences.

There are those who are angered by the impact on themselves [& of course, the poor, children & seniors of MI--the 'theme song around the country lately]

There is also the group striving to collect enough signatures [for a Recall] in time to place upon the November ballot.  Previous such ballots have not succeeded and there are prediction that this one, too, will not be on the ballot.

Interestingly, those doing the promoting and collections of signatures are all seen in their Red shirts. The apparent uniform for those protesting around the country AND in various other countries.  The latest of which was seen on the Cable news report from Greece that reported the Prime Minister's vote of support that took place today. At the time of the News video, the protesters had not yet heard about the positive vote for the Prime Minister.  What struck me was the color Red seen throughout the throngs of folks gathered for a protest not yet [at that time] put into motion.

As you look around our country at the various protests -usually those involved with 'cuts' to 'benefits' etc. notice the color Red.
I remember the past when the slogan "Better dead, than Red" was bandied about in our country; yes, it spoke to the movements toward communism & the acceptance there of; funny how times do change--now wearing the Red shirt is almost dictated by those organizing such protests.

Governor Rick Snyder-MI had sent a request to the Michigan Supreme Court himself;  Why? He requested that court to review the Constitutionality of  some provisions in the new state law signed into Law last month-- [that will change how pensions are taxed]
The Supreme Court could not take up such requests until the Bill was signed into Law; Oral arguments are scheduled for September 7, 2011.

That request for a Supreme Court advisory opinion effectively could preempt any court challenge...filed by opponents, such as public employee unions.

At this point in Michigan's revival, Snyder declined to join the GOP letter to push for Medicaid changes.  Snyder is quoted as stating that...'I am focused on Michigan...my role is not to be an advocate  on a national scale...was hired to be governor of Michigan....'
Snyder was the only GOP Governor who has not signed the letter; he will weather any storm that may come of this.
A letter was sent by him to Rep.Fred Upton-R-St. Joseph-listing his willingness to work with the congressman and his committee.

It is refreshing to see a governor more interested in the state & citizens, than his/her personal approval ratings.

We make it right for you!

Who was it that said that a nation is doomed as soon as it is possible for the people to vote themselves largess? The entitlement mentality has GOT TO STOP. Personal responsibility is where it's at!

Barb & Sal, I wish California could get its budget act together! The Republicans say no tax increases, which of course I kind of like, since i'd have to pay more for any increases. Then again services are being cut to the poor and all of us. Democrats of course don't agree, and want to balance cut with some tax increases. 2/3 majority is required to pass, so you gues what happens all the time. Nothing.

Barb and Sal. Do you think they will allow me to drive that race car? I could put my company banner on there and do a few laps. Here's to Michigan.

California lawmakers rushed to balance a budget so as not to miss the deadline of June 15, but the Governor vetoed it saying the numbers did not add up.  Meantime, the State Controller is withholding one day's paycheck for each day until the revised  budget proposal makes sense.

Patrick...Must look up that source, as it is so true; Prophetic, as well.
we feel as you do on the 'entitlement mentality" that seems too prolific around our country.  There do seem to be some statements to the 'Personal Responsibility' aspect coming from elected officials; then, others always turn this into potential for attacks on 'the poor, the working ? middle class, & of course, the seniors. As seniors, we believe that we are allowed to speak on this last threatened class: Most  of the seniors that we know 7 even some we meet along the roadway of life ARE proponents of Personal Responsibility.
Who are those seniors who seem to be waiting for tax payers' $$$ ?  Possibly actors being paid to act pathetically; duped real folks , or those who have an axe to grind. Too bad--pick another 'group' to exploit.
Thanks for your comment. Have a good rest of the week.

Ellen...that is what we understand about those 'national ads'; must admit that when this program was introduced in 2009-10, I thought it a wast of tax payer monies that we did not have. Since those days, have been fully educated in the possibility of this program, and  it does seem to be working as well. Those are the times when I am happy to have been shown the errors of my beliefs.
Thanks for your comment.  Have a good rest of the week.

Eric....with you on the quickness of 'summer-time'; Hey, you have school-age kids how is it that YOU did not notice the passage of time. LOL
it seems that our neighborhood kids are growing up so that when you see them on the street, they are headed to the 7/11, or they are checking the 'turf'.
Thanks for your MI appreciation of the blog--that is the part I play in our partnership--which I must admit is much easier than dealing with the mechanics of a Realtor[R]--where else can a Realtor[R] work in pajamas??? LOL
thanks for your comment. Have a good rest of the week.
PS: are you participating in Friday's "Jobbie-Nooner" this year??

John...you know, that is a shame; I am not so old, nor too young ? LOL, to remember when what CA did was considered a bellwether for the rest of the nation. Certainly, that was true of Education. What has happened out there !
It does seem that our Now governor Rick Snyder is more interested in getting MI back-to-reality than Governors previously [though during his first 8 years, Governor J. Engler did put the work-to-receive-aid into practice, along with other reforms ]
[At the time], I did not accept nor enjoy John McCain' comments that ...'the car companies will never be the same again...' turns out he was correct in many aspects when speaking to this topic in late 2009 or early 2010.
Thanks for your comment.  have a good rest of the week.

Robert...you will never know until you present your ideas to the 'Pure Michigan' people.   Go for it--not normally Race Car / Race Car race fans around this house; but should this happen to / for YOU, we will be watching carefully.

Perhaps, you could produce a "Branded Banner"--ROBERT L. BROWN--your Bellabay Realtor--Grand Rapids MI. -- a 'Pure Michigan Supporter

Rent a 'fence space' and who knows--this will be seen via ESPN around the country.
Thanks for your comment. Have a good rest of the week.

Dee....Your Governor J. Brown- right ? , has shown some strong moves this time around.  too bad-- when the legislature has been entrenched in their past or present beliefs.  Again, that is sad when in the not too distant past- CA was a 'state to watch' for forward thinking processes.

We visited the S. Diego area during the height of the Haight Ashbury [spell check has no suggestions] era--interesting and somewhat fun, but have not been there since then due to business restrictions.  Could have gone back when we were deciding on a new state.CA--earth quakes, some crime areas & Hwy.101 were placed in a contest with FL-- Snakes, gators, XWay !-95,  & hurricane shutters/ FL won for us. LOL
Thanks for your comment. Have a good weekend.
