San Diego Summer Pops Schedule for July 2011

The Summer of 2011 will be a banner year for entertainment  here in San Diego.

The line up of Entertainers  this year will provide quite a mix that should provide something for everyone's taste. Performed at a specifically constructed Stage at one of my most favorite locations, the Embarcadero Marina South directly behind the San Diego Convention Center. I have marked the approximate location where the Stage will be set up as well as the location for the fireworks for the 4th of July Celebration.

Virginia is right, those lucky residents of San Diego.  Is the summer also considered "tourist" season?

Hi Sondra, I may need to do more with the video recorder. There is an interesting perspective from the top floor of the parking garage for the Hilton which is adjacent to this venue. This photo was taken from there. I have a 300 mm lens but may need a 400mm for this. Might be worth a try. As a paying guest taking photos may not be the best way to capture these events.

Hi Ginny,The summer months are a great time to collect the "Around and About" photos for future use.  Everyone needs to use that category title for their respective communities as well. Summertime shows off the landscape of the city with the best possible natural light sources.

Hi Virginia, We are certainly blessed in this community that there are so many many always looking out for ways to improve the cultural aspects of city life. While the beaches and parks are a natural draw, the balance of the cultural components are not overlooked.

Hi Mona, San Diego is a natural draw year around. The Spring months usually get the Easterners and the summer months get more of the international clientele. The ocean, beaches and Bay draws locals and tourists alike in the summer months which is what the coastal areas are known for. With over 70 miles of coastline, it holds an awful lot of people, :-)

Hi Robert, Thank you for your wonderful comment. Actually a series of of musical events in June, July and August. I listed on the June presentations.  I am guessing that even though most of the presentations take place on the weekends, that once the stage is in place it will stay up for the June July and August months.  Actually when I was shotting the photos that includes the one above, I realized that one of the best vantage points for the Fireworks would be the roof of the parking garage. Less people to navigate as well.

Hi Sheila, So many more things than just the Pops. I try to photograph all the major events that take place, in particular if they are annual events. And we have lots of them here in a city with so much always happening. But it is the smiles of happy people that really says it best They call San Diego the place where Happy Happens. If you want to smile click on my link here for you. Enjoy!

William,

I have to tell you that we desert rats miss the open water.  You're blessed to live near the ocean!

Hi Mike, I understand that concept very well. I can't imagine not being near water. Especially in the summer months with the possibility of oppressive heat in the desert.

William - I can imagine that location being a phenomenal staging area for fireworks, with the water nearby.  It would be neat trying to photo capture the reflection during the display.  This location is also a wise choice for the Summer Pops program!  Hope you have a GREAT weekend, William!  Temps here have moved a bit cooler from the 100+ temps earlier this week.  It feels wonderful!

Hi Myrl,

I have my area staked out ( hopefully at least on the roof of the parking garage for the Hilton where this photo was taken from). The view would be unobstructed and the perspective really different, especially for the fireworks over the 4th. I hope I can actually accomplish that. The venues for this city like any big city are so vast but selecting things on the water seems to be the right thinking. Speaking of temps, on the water , even in the summer months can be very cool. I remember a couple 4 th of Julys that I was wearing a coat and covered up with blankets.

Hi Harrison, In the newspaper this morning, it announced that Marvin will not be appearing, he is ill with pneumonia. But the Pops are great and the show will go on with replacement.
