Solar Decathlon - Washington D.C. - Oct 12 - 20, 2007

Solar DecathalonThe Solar Decathlon has come to Washington, D.C.

This event has gathered 10 schools from around the world to compete in areas of esthetics and overall solar efficiency in a house.  The majority if the schools are from the U.S. but a few other countries entered are from Germany, Puerto Rico, Spain and Canada.

The event runs from Oct 12 - Oct 20 with the awards being posted on October 19.

These are just various shots I took with my Treo 700p as my wife and I strolled through the exhibit.  If you have a chance to come visit the Decathlon, arrive early as crowds begin to form and the lines are lengthy.

Wow! This is interesting. Don't know much about the Solar Decathlon. I probably wont make it out there. But I am going to see the virtual tours online at the website. Thanks Matthew. Great post.

Hope you like the virtual tours.  I chatted with one student about a solar water heating system that can be either attached to the house or separate from the house - Though it appears to cost about $6000 it appears to be able to heat all the hot water ever used and heat the house as well!

Hi Matthew,

Looks to us like you have a great Blog and you may be too concerned about comments.  You provide a great deal of quality information for your clients and customers.  This is a very good example.  Should be interesting to see how our world makes solar energy more affordable because that seems to be the main sticking point.  Thanks for posting and we hope to see you around in the Rain!

Jennifer - I didn't understand the comment about the camera buttons defeating me.

Lisa & Rob - Thanks for the comments.  You're right - I shouldn't be so concerned about the comments.  Do what I want and the right type of folk will flock to this drummer with a different beat!

Just saying that since you were having so much trouble with posting from your tiny little gadget the other day - that taking pictures was easier :-) Someday I will make sense. Just not today!

Jennifer - actually I was more referring to it being sad that I was bored enough to want to blog on my PDA instead of chatting up someone or doing something else.

Sounds very interesting.  Was this your first one?  Was it just between the high schools or both college and high schools.

It's just between universities.  Yes, my first one.  I've seen them online before - finally gotten to visit it.  Looking to go back this week when the crowds are a little less.
