Facing foreclosure? Here is some help
By BEE STAFF REPORTS

A consumer debt counseling group is offering a number of programs and workshops aimed at people facing foreclosure or try- ing to get out from under a failing loan, or just looking to improve their finances.

ByDesign Financial Solutions, also known as Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Mid- Counties, will offer a series of programs through the end of the year, most of them free.

Beginning Oct. 10, the nonprofit group is hosting a series of two-hour Web seminars, or webinars, on finding alternatives to fore- closure. The webinars, which are conducted through a Web site and over the phone, are Oct. 16, 24, 30; Nov. 7, 14, 20, 28; and Dec. 5, 12 and 18. All webinars are from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Avoiding foreclosure also is the subject of two free workshops Nov. 7 and Dec. 12, also from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Topics include how to avoid predatory lending and how to put together a proposal for a lender.

ByDesign will offer a two-part course on personal finance management Oct. 15 and 22 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The course will cover budgeting, cash-flow management and credit. The course is $20 per person and includes a book.

First-time home buyers may benefit from a workshop for such purchases Oct. 20 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The free workshop covers loans, real estate terms and managing default problems.

Consumers with checking issues can get help at a full-day workshop Nov. 17, for $60. Completing the course will allow people who cannot get a checking account because of nonfraudulent reasons to establish an account. The course is from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
