Office meetings are long and boring , what do you do?

Over the years, Charlie and I had attended many long and boring office meetings (too many), we came up with 5 steps to get organized and make the most of office meetings.

1. Begin with an Agenda- The best agendas are those that are shared ahead of the meeting. Email to attendees prior to meeting so that they have time to prepare and research.

2. Carefully determine Attendees- we don't need too many people in them. If you are unsure of whether to invite someone, having a clearly defined agenda (Step 1) is a great way to guide you select attendees.

3. Start and End on Time. It is very easy to keep on going. Therefore stop on time. The next project depends on you to start on time.

4. Take Notes / Assign a Note-Taker. Our memories lie to us sometimes. We need to put them in writing.

5.  Clearly Define Follow-up Actions - What needs to be done?  Who is responsible? When is it due? How much is it going to cost? Then a summary email to all attendees. Follow up in a week to see where we are at.

Of course, this only happens in a perfectworld. At least we make them our goals, and improve ourselves constantly to be more efficient and have more time spared for selling real estate or to be with our family.

That's where the fun is.

Susan and Charlie,

Depending on who is running the meeting and why it is being called, prioritize the items. :)

Bring in a guest-speaker for a 10 minute talk WHO will SAVE or PAY attendees.  Having started 2 property management firms, I used to do 10 minute talk to real estate office meeting son my Realtor referral program where I paid agents $250 per tenant and property....WIN-WIN

Wallace,

Pay attendees to stay for the meeting. How innovative is that?

How many meetings to attend in order to get your property management deal done?

If the purpose of a proposed meeting is simply to disseminate information, then consider whether the information can be sent by e-mail.  However, if the meeting is absolutely necessary, don't forget to interject a little humor.

We have a weekly "Idea Sharing" meeting for one hour on Wednesdays.   They always put the theme, if anyone will be a speaker, and you have a choice whether or not to attend.     Some weeks there are lots of agents, some weeks not so much.       They do try and have subjects that would be pertinent to the current market, or new things on the market to help our business!

Joan,

Wonder where do you find time for all that.

A hard working lady you are.

Thanks for the connection via AR.
