Pay it Forward - Hey Mam Can You Spare a Gallon?
I was telling my business partner, Will, this week that I needed to do a "Pay it Forward" so I needed to put my thinking cap on. He said, relax, something will come up.
I went to fill my car (Sugar) with gas yesterday when a polite young man pulled up on the other side of the pump.
He said, "Excuse me, but my car is out of gas and my credit card is declined and I have no cash with me. Is there any way you can help me out so I can make it home and find some money?"
I told him absolutely. I could see that he wasn't the typical guy on the street who begs for money and then drives off in his BMW. He was a nice young man about 20 years old and he was truly embarrassed about asking for help.
I dug through my console and found $13. I handed it over to him and said, "I know it doesn't buy very many gallons of gas, but it should get you home." He was stunned!
He went inside and prepaid for his $13 worth of gas. When he came out he couldn't stop thanking me. He complimented my car and then told me how much he liked my dress. Ok, enough. Fill your car with gas and move on.
I think he was just so blown away that a stranger would help him, he didn't know how to handle it.
I drove away with a smile knowing that I had made a difference in this young man's day.
