Antitrust Suit Against Realtors Moves Forward

There was big news this week in the government's antitrust case against the National Association of Realtors, but the press missed it. The news is that a federal court in Chicago on Nov. 27 allowed the Department of Justice's antitrust suit against the Realtors to proceed. The DOJ argues that the Realtors' rules illegally limit competition from brokers who use the Internet. The Realtors deny they're breaking any laws.

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
 Will later be past
The order is

Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'

Edgeio to Take on Trulia and Realtor.com

Edgeio, the online classifieds site has acquired Adaptive Real Estate Services, reports VentureBeat: it has acquired the assets of Adaptive Real Estate Services, a company built over the past several years by father and son team Robert and Peter Meyer — and which has patiently built up relationships with brokers and agents in 70 of the top MLS organizations — and equivalent to about 70 percent of the MLS network nationwide. It has about 1.5 million homes listed for sale in the areas it covers.

What ARES really brings to the table is that it has already done the grueling legwork of bridging all the various IDX feeds from different MLS systems into a unified data stream.

Realtor.com Loses Northwest MLS

From the Seattle PI, the Northwest Multiple Listing Service dumps Realtor.com

The Northwest Multiple Listing Service will stop sending its home listings to the nation’s most popular real estate Web site in April. Local real estate executives disagree over whether the move is about focusing the MLS on providing information to its members or making it harder for smaller brokers to reach home shoppers who use Realtor.com. Many brokers plan to continue sending listings to the site on their own.
