Leaning From Ignorance Avoiding Arrogance!

There is much to be gained Leaning From Ignorance Avoiding Arrogance!  I learn everyday from the ignorant, ignorance does not mean stupid it means lack of knowledge. A certain innocence through lack of experience. Maybe even virginal, but with a sincere interest.

I've had more experience than most, those that surround me can normally say the same. In such lofty circles it's easy to dismiss the novice. But, to do so is to make a major mistake!

It's foolish arrogance and the first step to oblivion to ignore or dismiss the novice! Brilliance often comes from the mouth of babes if you just give them a chance to speak, and open your mind to hear.

Yes, I've got a story. But first a though. That pesky novice with there foolishly annoying questions, thinks the same way as most of your clients! Who do you want to develop your ideas with, the "sincere wantabe" or the paying client? True experts return to basics when all else fails, that kid just finished basic real estate, you took it 20 years ago. If you can't see the benefit from helping the "Wantabe" then consider this: "There is no better way to hone your skills than to teach!"

The story. I'm a big believer in sales meetings and openly discussing current problems. We were mortgage brokers, a builder sent us an Air Force E-9 who'd been turned down 6 times for to high ratios. The guy's got lots of money, and his only bills are child support. My newest LO says "To bad they're not bills you said last week we could pay bills down to 6 months or less and not included them." Such a though never occurred to me! It's not done with child support!

A quick phone call got the girls Brith dates, check the divorce papers, the payments ended at 18! I had lunch with my favorite VA underwriter, she'd never heard of such a thing. By the time I got bact to my office she'd called Ginny Mae, "do it." Called in the Sargent, called his ex, paid the ex ahead submitted loan. My underwriter called. "You didn't tell me the guys name. I turned him down 3 times already!"

We closed a week later.

I had Michigan's CCIM Marketing Group and The Farm and Land Institute, they took 5 days a month! Today we have Active Rain!

Bill this is a great example of a brand new pair of eyes in the business, making an old pro like yourself, see something new.  Just because we have never tried it before, does not mean it can't be done.  I will have to keep this scenario in mind.

George,

Some times we get so involved with why some thing can't be done that we miss the obvious. We add to this by accepting other peoples restrictions. Just because some one else can't do it doesn't mean I can't.

I never accept other peoples restitions! Never!

Gary,

I had 12 LO's at that meeting the same 12 that were at the lecturer a week before! Only the novice spoke up.
