Craig's Week in Tech - Newsletter

June 25, 2011 - Volume 1, Issue 4

Welcome

Another week and I'm happy to report and share some of the interesting things in my tech travels. If you missed the earlier issues you can go back via these links (the first one was not formatted quite as pretty but still has an interesting mix of thoughts!)
Issue 1  ::  Issue 2 :: Issue 3

TWiT

Since I have discovered the twit.tv network ("this week in technology", produced by Leo Laporte), I have been watching the episodes every week.  My three favorite programs are twig (this week in google), photo,  and all about android. There is also many other shows including iPad and twit (this week in tech). I download the mp4s and watch as podcasts on my commute :)

Top Real Estate Websites

Experian Hitwise website publishes statistics on the most visited websites. The real estate category is one that should interest you! Do you know the top 4 sites (and my next question - do you have a valid profile page or are you mysterious avatar with no description). Consumers are there, are you?

In 60 Seconds

What happens every 60 seconds on the web? That infographic highlights that the web is alive with activity on all fronts. Much of it is in all the social channels as you would expect. Consider in 60 seconds 694,445 google searches and 98,000 tweets. Thanks to AgentGenius for highlighting this graphic. Subscribe to their RSS feed, they have great content.

Search Engine Land

We can get a little SEO obsessed. My personal opinion is to write quality content for people first and the SEO comes naturally (but knowing some SEO rules helps you write smarter too). The Periodic chart of SEO we talked about last week, it helped me find searchengineland.com an excellent resource website! Writing Quality Content is a specific post that they help highlight that point.

Webinars

I held my second lunch webinar yesterday. We talked about QR Codes and Google Analytics including our AR Outside Blog. I'm going to record all these topics eventually, but for now perhaps you'll join me in a webinar soon. I enjoy the interaction and discussions that we have in class. If you want to be included in the notification email list of future classes, you can let me know on this simple form.

Mobile Apps

Last week in the comments you wanted more about Android. Have you tried Google Goggles yet? The intro video gives an idea what you can do. Scan a business card? Sure, and add it to your contacts without typing! Plus many other things too. It also works for iPhone. Give it a try. Come back and leave a comment... I'd like to hear your review of it! :)

Video

You know I'm a big proponent for video. I also help moderate the vbloggers group a place where we can go for excellent inspiration and mutual support in our video group! :) This past week we had excellent video posts as always! Wende gives us a tour of San Francisco Peninsula homes, Debb shares her outtakes, and Jimmy shows how a home video tour can be done! (great job Jimmy)

Rapportive

I am a huge gmail fan. I love how I can search my whole archive of mail instantly (it is google after all). What also is cool is the plug-ins too that are available. Rapportive plug-in takes away the ads on the sidebar and instead gives you contact information related to the email you are reading. How to find them on LinkedIn, FB, Twitter, etc. What they most recently tweeted etc. Do you have a potential new client? Wouldn't it be nice to know more a little about them to better connect with their interests?

Excellent recap of the week Craig as usual.  Thanks for pointing out and highlighting some of the fantastic VBloggers post of the week too.  There's some real good talent presenting themselves isn't there?

Sounds like you had a great class last Friday and hitting the QR Code topic was smart.  I'm looking forward to seeing how more agents are using them.  Again, some really cool ideas are surfacing...

I'd not heard of Rapportive - sounds cool but I started the beta use of Xobni for gmail.  Any idea what the difference is between the two?  I loved Xobni for Outlook but now that I'm MAC bound...

In any event hope you're enjoying what's left of the week-end and thanks again for such good tips and advice!

Another excellent post. Surprised that it isn't featured (yet). Suggested it, as I'm sure many of your fans have done also.

So much good information --- will try to visit the sites you suggested

Keep on rocking!

Good stuff, Craig. I remember watching Leo Laporte on ZDTV. Been awhile since I've visited SearchEngineLand; going to do that over the three-day weekend.

Haha - when I'm not in the field I'm at computer all day - so the jones for a really smart phone is not really an actual need at the moment - just a very strong desire. I'm actually holding out for smart glasses
