Support the Troops in Katy Texas by attending the Fourth of July celebration hosted by the Katy Veterans of Foreign or VFW Post 9182 which is located on George Bush Drive and avenue D in old Katy. The Fourth of July will start with a preview of the auction items. After the preview, the program will include entertainment, a brief patriotic presentation and  a special BBQ lunch will  occur in that order. It is fun for all members of the family and activities for all attending.

Come support your local VFW and experience their amazing camaraderie that these veterans exude. I have personally meet several of VFW members and they are really nice people with huge hearts. The Support the Troops   event is major fund raiser for post 9182. The VFW provides a wide array of volunteer services in and all around the Katy area plus helping needy Veterans.

The auction preview will begin around 9:30 AM. Bill Parish will begin his two hour patriotic entertainment program around 10 AM. A 30 minute scheduled patriotic theme program will start about noon and will include a “ table presentation with fine china honoring all those Missing in Action and taken Prisoner of War. The main point of the program is to remind all attendees on the Fourth of July that “ Freedom is not free” . The BBQ lunch will be prepared on site and is available for sale by noon or so. Hot dogs are available for the children. The Ladies Auxiliary will raffle off deserts. Face painting and other goodies will be available for the children. The live Auction will be over by 4 PM.
VFW building Katy, Texas

The VFW began back in 1899 when Veterans of the Spanish_American War (1898) and the Philippine Insurrection (1899-1902) started local organizations to obtain benefits and rights for their service to this country. Many of these folks were founded or sick and without a means to make a living. There was no medical care or pensions for these Veterans and they had to fend for themselves.

Across the country Veterans through grass roots efforts banded together to form organizations with what eventually would be known as the VFW. Chapters in Ohio, Colorado and Pennsylvania were the forerunners for other states and the movement gained momentum. By 1936 the VFW membership had grown to almost 200,000.

The Katy VFW post 9182 was formed in 1947. It was named for Floyd E. Breedlove a Katy resident and a B -17 pilot was the first Katy resident to die in World War II when he was shot down in 1944.

The VFW annually with its 2.1 million members across the United States along with its Auxiliary members contribute more than 11 million hours of volunteerism in communities all across this great nation.

Come out support this fine organization and have great time this Fourth of July with the VFW in old Katy. Contribute by buying lunches, raffle items and auction items. The funds will be used for excellent community work that the VFW always provides. If you have any questions or need additional information go to VFW Post 9182 web site.

Bob,

What a great way to celebrate the 4th! I won't even be working that day alas I still won't be able to attend as I will be in Vegas! I think this is a great idea to remind people that we what we take for granted our freedoms comes at high cost! God Bless the Red, White and Blue!
