Awhile back I wrote a blog about a Buyer who had taken the real estate course and was slowly moving his way into the world of being a Realtor®. Seeing him fly the coop and on his own was hard but I survived. The other day he sent me an email and asked if he could bend my ear over lunch. I said sure and so we met last Thursday.
He came with a pad and pen and lots of notes and questions. What kind of phone should he get, what kind of plan, how soon should he set up a website, what questions should he ask as he interviews at different brokerages??? The questions were many.
I admired his thoroughness and concern over making right choices. I was honored he asked me the questions. Oh he had spoke with a few others here and there but then he came to me for my take on what is needed to be good at what I do; helping people make sound real estate decisions when buying and selling.
It was a delightful lunch and conversation and I was honored to pay it forward and share my thoughts on starting and growing a real estate business. Even though he no longer will be using my services to buy and sell real estate I will forever be his friend and 'go to' Realtor® as he grows his business and becomes one of the great Realtors® of our future.
Martha, this sounds like the best compliment in the world! Congratulations!
Martha
What an honor that he wanted, and needed, YOUR advice and counsel. One of the real pleasures of being in this business IS being able to help others who are getting started and need help. I have never been concerned about competition or giving away secrets to my business, but, rather, a way to give back to others AND to help make this profession a better place for all.

Martha, I love your saying: "Once a Client, Always a Friend". You should use that as your tag line!
You had quite an impact on this new agent. Good that you will be his mentor. I have had numerous buyers and sellers go into RE after doing a transaction with me. Only one has ever stayed for more than a few years.
I wish him well..stay in touch. He could become your biggest referral source.
Martha, I agree with Margaret. I too have had past clients try this gig. It really is not for the faint hearted!
I think it is truly an honor to help those who request a little of your time and expertise. I am always glad to share my knowledge and time. When I was a massage therapist years ago, I mentored many therapists both in the therapy side and the business side helping them to get started. Some still stay in contact even after all of these years, I always felt it an honor. I had my husbands hair cutter call and ask me if I would talk with a client of hers who was just going into Real Estate not too long ago, she just wanted some talking time and a little advice. I spent time with her gladly. I know your client (?) really appreciated your time and thoughts.
