13 Comments on How to turn off a buyer / agent
Erica - I'm sure you are not the ONLY agent - and therefore, buyer - skipping that home....when will sellers ever learn...?!?!
I agree with all points in your post. I love dogs and pets but please.... Not everyone does and the seller being home... No.
I'm with you. Take the dogs for a walk. Put them in your car and drive around the block. Do something but do not stay home while a buyer is coming to tour your house.
Wow! Who is the smartest one involved in this MLS post - the Listing Agent, the Seller, or the Dog?
I had a showing where the dog had an accident in this tiny apartment. We entered the dog walker and he cleaned up the mess, but the smell was still noticable that we had to show the unit with the door open. Ugh! I am a huge pet lover; but if the pet is not behaved or trained, they should be put in daycare while your apartment is on the market.
I had one like that where the owners wouldn't even let me put a lockbox on the house, but one of the dogs was wicked mean. And there were times when her baby would be napping, someone would came by and she had to be there. Oddly enough, though she had three dogs, the house never smelled.
I'll pass on this one thank you! I'm sure many buyers are going to pass on this one. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!
Erica - I'm a pet person too (I have three fur babies of my own) but when hubby and I go to sell our home, we will not be leaving the fur babies in the house - ever! Anyway, would love to see pics of your new fur babies too.
Erica, Congratulations on your new chocolate lab! I am in total agreement . Sellers should be out and pets should be out or crated. If you want to sell the home. (I have pets also but selling a home is selling a product.)
Take the dogs for a walk or a ride...I (we) aren't interested in your pets, we're there to see the house...Good post that I hope is read by a lot of listing agents...Enjoy your day.
Erica,
We all know that the owners do not have to be home to take care of the dogs when they can be taken out to the garage or taken for a walk or a drive. I think this was just an excuse for the owner to be underfoot. (pun intended) Or does the listing agent think his colleagues are fools to accept this explanation. Really!
I'm with Fred...I think this is one smart dog(s), one not so smart home owner, and an even less smart Seller's Agent.
You really need to convince Seller's that Buyers will NOT enjoy seeing their home if they are there. Period. It's that simple.
"Take care of the dogs." What? Walk them, lock them up, hold them at bay so they don't attack. What?
Worst case, you put in the listing, "Pets. Call Agent for Showing Instructions." THEN, you tell the agent the situation and that the Seller's will leave the home with the dogs upon your arrival. Or so we hope.
Or, yeah....let's just move on to the next house.
Erica,
I know you didn't intend this as a humorous post, but your sign made me laugh!
