It Is So Frustrating .......

It is very frustrating to have a person send you a question in your email, and not be able to respond to them.   I had a question about a property in Silvermine Woods sent to me through my post on the Wilton Patch today, and tried to respond.    The response kept bouncing back "Mail Delivery Permanently Failed" - three different times.

I had just received the question at about 3:00 this afternoon, - it was about a
property in Silvermine Woods, a great golfing community in Wilton - and by 6 pm, when I was back in my office it was bouncing!    It was an aol email address -  how does an email address work to send at 3 pm, and fail to receive at 6 pm?    I wish the person had included their name, phone, or address - I would then have tried another way.

Sometimes when folks do not hear back from us, it is not through lack of trying, but rather a lack of enough methods to communicate.    I am very sad, since I had done some research and wanted to share the information, but couldn't.

Is this an indication that perhaps our super fast technology of today gets us into trouble sometimes?    It was easy for this person to click the "email the Author" tab in the Wilton Patch article, but it did not give me the correct address for some reason, so I, as a result, could not respond.

Does anyone know of a way to look up who an email address belongs to?

That just sucks! Wish they would leave alternate ways to contact them, but then again, they probably feel they would be harrassed and pressured! Hope they reach out to you again and you get to share your info! Have a great week!

Hi Dagney.  Emailing can be frustrating sometimes.  I know that the problem you are talking about happens when the person's email limit has been reached.  I'm not sure if you can access who owns an email address, but maybe you can try to go to aol.com and see if there's an option to look it up.  I don't think so because of the spam situation.  May I ask you a question?  How did you get your Activerain to look so nice ---just like a real blog.  Mine looks like a rookie ActiveRain place.  I'd appreciate your advice on how I can get mine to look better.  Thanks for the post and good luck.

Eric - I know what you mean.   But hope they try - I have published this in the Patch, just hoping that they read it!

Suzanne - I am using ScribeFire - do a search on it, and you will find full instructions...

That is a bummer!  Maybe their inbox was full or something?

On the ScribeFire note, I downloaded that, I'm a slow learner though and it was overwhelming, too much info for me at the time, so I'm pretty one dimensional on my blog too, though I did pay someone to make it look a little prettier ;-)

HI Dagny - Can anyone on the Wilton Patch help with that technical question? You might also try again in case it was a situation where the person' mailbox was full.

Dagny, have had this happen a few times and have not been able to find out the real email...i've tried variations based upon the letters near certain ones on  the keyboard to see if i could come up with the real thing..no luck!  If they don't type right you are out of luck.

Glenn- I certainly hope to get an answer at some point!

J&K- You could be right - does aol fill up- does aol have limits?   I think you are talking about the customization of your blog - get the AR staff to help you with that!   ScribeFire will help with your fonts, - sizes, colors, styles, etc....  Call me if you need help - I'll walk you through it.....

Barbara - Thanks for popping in ...

Judy - I don't think it had anything to do with the Patch.

Dagny, I am so ANTI-AOL for the fact this is an ongoing issue! 90% chance they DID get the email and will responding to the email they sent you.... So, you may be getting a response back as well once they get to checking their email... Secondly, google the EMAIL~ you would be surprised how it may come up on a social network that they may be members. ;) Let me know~ if I was right... ;)

Lauren - I did as you said, but there wasn't anything there that made any sense.....

I guess I'll wait and see!  If they are getting my emails, there will be six of the same in their inbox - Whoa - a little obnoxious?

Dagny: Can you post something regarding this topic in the Patch? Maybe that person will recognize themselves and try again to contact you? I'd keep trying the email address too. As mentioned above, maybe it's just a short-term "glitch" being experienced. You never know, it may go through at a later date. Worth a try ...

Dagny, I feel your pain. I hope you can get back to that person. It is the most annoying thing when you try to be responsive to the public and this great technology that we have , which is supposed to facilitate that communication, lets us down.
