During some Sunday morning football and me catching up with some blog activities my husband announced that there will be a new TV show called Viva Laughlin.  Of course he couldn't say it without laughter.  I didn't think it was funny at all!

Laughlin is an hour to an hour and a half from the big city.  Laughlin, NV has the old Vegas attitude and style, cheap buffets and drinks!  The kind people are always looking for when they come here!  My reaction was NOOOOOOOOOO all that will be gone!  Then I thought, what great PR for Laughlin and a possible boost to their economy!

Laughlin is situated on the  Colorado River on the Arizona border.  Bullhead City, Arizona is just right across the river.  According to city-data.com, Laughlin's 2000 population was only 7076 and according to wikipedia, Bullhead City boasts three times as many residents and supplies most of Laughlin's workforce.

Housing median prices run a bit higher (around $290K) than the Nevada average.  Laughlin is well known for it's annual Laughlin River Run, more so than the inexpensive Vegas style lodging, buffets and entertainment.

View tidbits about the show right here. It premieres this Thursday, Oct 18 and it's regular night is Sunday.

Congratulations Laughlin, you are now on the map whether you want to be in this light or not!  I just wish I would have known the last time I was there.  I would have soaked up all of the old charm it espoused! I have pictures and can't find them, otherwise they would be posted right here!

If you are seeking old time Vegas, go visit Laughlin soon!

Laughlin can be a lot of fun.  My wife and I like to go there sometime, when we don't want to spend a ton of money.  In the summer its fun when you bring a friend who has a boat.

Renee,

My parents just love going to Laughlin.  My dad is really into Bargain Hunting!  The city really knows how to roll out the red carpet for even the "low-rollers" like them. :)

See you in about 4 weeks!

Lucky :)

So Renee, Since Las Vegas does not have a football team, who do you guys route for the Arizona Cardinals?

Being in Tampa, and a native Floridian (tampanian).. Go BUCS!  They are not playing too bad this year either!

Gary:  YES!  We have gone rafting down the Colorado between Laughlin and Bullhead City to end up at Avi!

Lucky:  It is seriously old vegas!  I cannot wait to meet you too!

Katrina:  No Cards or Bolts or Fraiders.  We are unfortunately Chiefs fans.  Something we brought from the midwest with us!

Hi Renee,

Each time we go to Vegas, we also spend a couple a days in Laughlin. We enjoy the slower pace there, along with the fun on the Colorado River. We always go over to Oatman Az. to see the wild burros wandering through the town. It's a fun visit.

Renee,  At first when I saw the commercial about Laughlin I had the same reaction that your husband did.  After reading your post I realize that that could be a tremendous boost for the economy of Laughlin BUT also the economy of Las Vegas.  I hope it works out well.

Renee - I spent New Years day in Laughlin in 1987 and I am told by many I would not recognize it today and I know that is true. When I was there in one of the casinos you could not walk through any casino because it was shoulder to shoulder waves of people.  I can only imagine what it looks like today.  I have been told many laughed at Don Laughlin when he announced he was opening casinos in that location many called too far out.  Don is the one laughing all the way to the bank!

Renee, isn't it Laughlin that has the riverboat ferries to take you from one casino to another?  I was there a few years ago as it is closer to AZ than Vegas and that is where we were driving from.  I have heard that the people that gamble there are very loyal!

David:  The valley is gorgeous!

Rey:Me too but I guess it is supposed to be a bit like "Cop Rock".  Back to laughing!

George:  What a vision!!!!

Joanne:  They do have some riverboats on the river but I don't know for sure if they are mobile or not!
