Oh Duh! What Was I Thinking?

Managing Real Estate Broker with The Property Source

Okay, I'll have to admit it...I just don't understand SEO, Google Search, rankings or anything else for that matter when it comes to my website.  I understand that they're important but I just don't understand how to apply them.

Just when I thought I was getting it, I do a little bit more research and find out that what I spent so much time trying to understand about Internet ranking and trying to attract the Google "worms", I find out that the information I was so desperately trying to understand is now passe.

Is it "key words", is it "backlinks", is it blogging?  Oh my goodness!  How much time have I wasted on trying to learn something that is no longer useful?

This all started over the weekend while I was trying to learn how to put those little links at the bottom of my ActiveRain blog, directing people to my website.  That led me to "back links" and how to apply them to my new website.  I struggled!  It appears that one can get these valuable back links by blogging on a certain website & back links will magically appear?

That got me thinking....how about if I just repost blogs from different websites - my own, of course?  You know, kind of "cut and paste"?  That was a mistake.   I did that but I now find out that the Google "worms" hate that.  They want only new material.  What?  You've got to be kidding me!  I have to come up with new material on 3 different websites at least 5 times a week?  I'm toast!

The problem is that I'm just not that young.  The 20-35 year olds are so lucky!  They grew up with computers.  They even had them when they were attending daycare.  The word "daycare" didn't even exist when I was growing up.  Gee, I remember when Texas Instruments came out with a calculator that could add, subtract, multiply, and divide, and that was about all it could do.  The very first computer we purchased (as adults) was a monster from Radio Shack.  I can't even remember what it did.  Maybe we just used it to play some games?  It was a really heavy thing though and by the time we decided to get rid of it, no one would take it.

I have the feeling that by the time someone reaches my age, the brain just can't handle a constantly changing new way of thinking.  Maybe it would be better for me to leave my website SEO, rankings, etc. to a professional.

And, I still don't know how to put the links in this blog!

It is certainly a struggle. I remember last year sequestering myself in my home office for a sold week trying to learn everything. The only thing I really accomplished was needing a bath!! LOL. Take it one day at a time and breathe. It does eventually come to us. Its just doing so at a slower pace. :0)
