Are real estate agents getting lazy? Recently I've read and heard agents say "That's just a waste of time" on many subjects; most notable is in regards to Marketing.
In fact, just the other day I was giving some pointers holding an effective Open House. A few agents blurted out, "Open Houses are a waste of time." Hmmm... it that a fact? I wonder if this agent uses tells his prospective clients this during is listing presentation?
A waste of time is leaning back in your office chair playing Angry Birds on your phone. A waste of time is you huddled over your laptop on facebook looking up old flings... What IS NOT a waste of time is holding an Open House or putting a little effort into marketing your property and--or yourself.
The fact is, a professional real estate agent's job is to market and sell homes for people. That's why you "represent" your clients. Holding Open Houses, advertising, and creating flyers is all part of they foundation of real estate marketing. I was told, "a tree can't stand with it's roots." With social media and Internet distribution as a new vehicle for marketing, it's such a misconception to abandon the fundamentals of real estate marketing. I really hope agents are just being lazy and don't really believe that the fundamentals of marketing are truly a waste of time; otherwise, the real estate business is doomed.
