When I first moved to the Tucson, Marana, and Oro Valley area, I had a bit of trouble remembering how to find friend's houses. It seemed every neighborhood looked "the same".
If you've followed my blog posts at all, you can detect a certain similarity amongst many homes built after 1980, in the $75,000 to $400,000 range. They call it Contemporary Frame Stucco. They come in tan, gold, beige, brown, off white, puce, shades of rust - lots of earth tones. When you're new here, you get to thinking all the homes look alike until you have time to discover the flavor of the different neighborhoods in town.
So, imagine my surprise when I drove into THIS neighborhood last week. Here was the first house on the block - something I see daily:
And then there was THIS one:
WHOA! No trouble finding your way to THIS house! It's the only one like it...well, in probably most Contemporary Frame Stucco neighborhoods. I had to dash home and see if it was in an HOA, because normally with an home owner's association, you must get permission to paint outside of the neighborhood color "scheme".
I wonder who they knew on the HOA board...
