Laramie, Wyoming Real Estate: The house next door - a cautionary tale!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Live in Laramie Real Estate, Laramie, Wyoming WY #12296

We used to have some nice people living in the house next door.  However, through circumstances unknown to me, the house went through foreclosure to become an REO.  The last time we saw our neighbors was last fall when they were moving out

As you may know we had a very harsh, long winter in our area.  During these winter months it seems that something happened in this house that no one caught - until last month.

As a result, a house that should easily sell for around $300K in our market is now for sale on an auction sight for $40K minimum bid.  Too good to be true?  You be the judge!

We don't expect to have new neighbors any time soon...

It is bad isn't it?!  We live in a very dry climate and I was really surprised to find that mold could grow like that here...

Oh Brenda,  Not good, that is one of the worst things that can happen to a home.  Good to see you again.

Wow - what the heck could cause that?  I thought there had to be some kind of water problem?

Good morning Brenda, I agree with Will...glad you're back.

That is awful and I'm not sure I'd want the house, even if it were given to me.  Mold is serious and who knows what it will cost to correct the problem.

Hi Will - Glad to be back!  Hope I can be more consistant this time...

Hi, Joetta - That's our best guess too - that perhaps a pipe froze yet it became warm enough in there to allow growth of the mold.  A Couple of the floors are very warped indicating water had sat on them for quite some time.

Hi, Kim - Thanks, I'm glad too.  I did overhear a contractor tell someone it would be a minimum of $85,000 just to get rid of the mold and that if they found asbestos they have to pull in a whole other team, and that's only the clean up cost - no restoration involved!

Holy cow, I've never seen anything this bad, were you wearing a suit when you took the pics?

It looks like it would be best to let the fire department have a practice run at this one!

Lovely house,  Brenda. I didn't know they made wallpaper anymore. Never did understand why someone would want it to look like moldy walls...
