The Container Garden

I am by no means, a gardener.  I love plants and flowers, but I have been cursed with a black thumb.  Typically, I can look at a flower or plant and it will DIE!  By telling you this, I must knock on wood, because I love my little container garden.  Every spring, Tanner and I plant some cherry tomatoes and an assortment of peppers.  Those, I can grow!  We also plant a little basil, oregano and of course, Cat Grass for the kitties.  I love spending time with Tanner planting, caring for, and then harvesting our "crops".  It is certainly not a huge crop, but it still feels good to grow things.  We added Strawberries to our container garden this year.... Next year, I think we'll add a few more items to our list and see how it goes.

The best thing about a container garden is that you don't need a big yard to have one.  Even if you live in a Condo or Townhouse, you can have a garden and if you move.... You can take the garden with you.

Lets shake things up at your home today!

Gardening is not one of my strong suits, but I'll hand a few floweing baskets on my porch and a few on the steps to enjoy when I am sitting out there.

Good morning Amy,

Container Gardens are wonderful and what a great time you and Tanner must have planting your garden..you are sharing the wonderful feeling of watching things grow and I'll bet he remembers this lesson for the rest of his life!

The planting, the watching it grow, the harvesting... such great bonding time with the kiddies. And, the results are always worth it.

Hello Amy,

We have been looking into going to just container gardening.

With the rain situation here in Carlsbad. We need to look into alternatives to conserve water.

Good post.

Best, Clint McKie

Amy - sounds like fun! I  know it's easier sometimes to manage the container gardens...

Amy~ We had a vegetable garden many years ago when we first moved in to our old house.  Now that we are both Realtors, it's hard to find the time to care for a garden, PLUS we have these roaming deer that like to munch in our back yard.  Maybe a small container garden would be the answer.  I'll give it some thought.  Thanks for sharing.

Amy  We now live in a town home - we have had to become container gardeners.  It works well

Roger - I have never been a gardener :-(  But we do love our little container garden!  We love to eat the veggies we grow too!

Dorie - Tanner loves taking care of "his" plants.... He is really enjoying the strawberries this year..... So are the squirrels!!!!  It's fun to spend that time with him!

Craig - It is a great bonding time between Tanner and me!  Wish he'd stay this age forever.... he is growing up WAY TOO FAST!

Clint - We collect rain water when we can.... Been a pretty dry spring here so far!

Carol - I do real well with caring for our container garden.  We tried a "real" garden a few years ago, and I got tired of the bunnies, deer, etc...... Plus the time it takes to care for, I was exhausted!  Now, it's fun to head outside before dinner and spend a few moments with Tanner!

Donna - I have always loved the idea of a Garden, but never had the dedication or the time.... This is much easier and allows me something I can share with Tanner (when he isn't too busy with video games).

Karen - It does work well... And I like the idea that you can move the garden if needed!
