Lavender Fields Forever!Hood River Lavender FarmHood River Lavender Farm

It seems to me that the full bloom of lavender is a couple weeks behind this year, but it's getting there. My sons and I stopped by Hood River Lavender Farms today to check on its progress. As you can tell by the photos, it has started to come out, but should be in perfect, full bloom by the lavender festival, Lavender Daze on July 16 and 17th.

As you might be aware, Hood River is nationally famous for its fruit orchards, particularly pears. Well, the climate and water supply from a Mt. Hood glacier that makes the Hood River Valley perfect for growing fruit, also turns out to grow the highest possible quality of lavender. Hood River Lavender not only grows lavender, but steam distills it to produce a variety of products from pure essential oil to perfume, to culinary products, tea and dried flowers. They are a "certified organic" farm.

I intend to write a much more detailed blog on Lavender Daze when it comes, but in the mean time, mark your calendar for July 16 and 17th. In addition to the above mentioned lavender products, independent vendors of all kinds will have booths at the festival, there will be food, live entertainment and you can pick your own lavender.
