Out and about the University of Dallas, students are still learning. For some students, summer reading is fun and continues year round. Kudos to those who enjoy reading and have a genuine thirst for knowledge. The world needs more educated leaders and University Campus' are filled with students who want to learn. The campus at the University of Dallas has a park-like setting and affords the students many opportunities to learn indoors and outdoors.
Adult learners are special people. They are the young professionals who are students, daughters, sons, some are married, employees, learners, socializers and goal setters. Today, I salute you! Education is not cheap; but the alternative may be more costly. Relationship building is a necessary step into adulthood. These students are doing great! They are the role models for the next generation and the leaders of tomorrow.
In addition to summer reading and summer classes, many students volunteer doing missionary work, mentoring others, babysit for younger siblings, assume leadership roles for organizations and develop skill sets and hobbies outside the classroom. To keep up with the job market, these students know that to keep pace and remain at the forefront, people must pursue continuous learning to stay current with the advances in any profession or career choice. Reading broadens the scope of knowledge.
Lessons we can learn from the students are: 1) Set aside a regular period of time each week for reading; 2) Stay current in worldly affairs; 3) Read and stay current in your field of choice and/or industry, 4) Read books outside of your area of expertise and stay abreast of research and technology; 5) Acquire knowledge by networking and studying together - book clubs help. 6) Reading should be a lifelong commitment.
