I missed my 5 year Anniversary with Active Rain. If this were an exclusive relationship, I would bet AR would be issuing a guilt trip about that!! It was June 26, 2006 that I wrote my first post on my blog. On the Success Panel At Raincamp in Dallas last month, Bob asked me what my very first post was, and I guessed. Well, I just looked it up and my guess was right! It was "Pre-Qualified verse Pre-Approved" and it got a whopping 4 comments! It even took 8 months to get those 4 comments!!
A couple of things that I noticed right away is that I have no graphics in the post nor any color. Ok, that's not too bad since it's a short post. If it was a longer post, graphics and color definitely break up all the black and white. The second thing I noticed is that I never went back and commented back to the people who took the time to respond to me. Back then, that wasn't the thing to do. I think it took a couple of months for people to realize they were supposed to be engaging people within their blog, and now most people respond to their comments.
The third thing I did was read the post to see if it was still relevant to today's market. Beleive it or not, I was preaching 5 years ago the same things I'm preaching now.. get pre-APPROVED and not just pre-Qualified!! This post sounds almost verbatim some of my conversations I have with my buyers still today. I wish all agents preached the same. One of my best friends in a different market lost the buyer on her house because three days before closing, the buyer's credit was re-pulled and there were too many changes to explain off and they were denied. It's sad, but it happens more often than it should.
When reading this post, to me it sounds like an abrupt ending. These days, I typically have a "call to action" statement for someone to call or email me yadda yadda. So, even though the topic and the basic writing style is still the same that I do today, I have learned over the past 5 years how to make the same words more appealing as I typically get more than just a mere 4 comments on my posts.
Happy Anniversary my Dear ActiveRain, and many many more!!
