Traffic & Los Angeles Real Estate Illustrated here with Photos. What is your Traffic like?

Los Angeles Traffic on I-405 on 06/23/2011

Traffic & Los Angeles Real Estate illustrated here with Photos. Traffic has always been interesting at best and more and more challenging as the years go by.

now on I-10 Freeway same time frame

I have enclosed here a few pictures to illustrate my point.

getting off the 110 heading to the 101 Freeway

More cars, more people and longer drives to get to the Property we as Realtors want to show. We have an unwritten Rule of 10-15 minutes are normal if someone is running late to a showing on the West Side of Los Angeles.  As you some of you know, we are by Appointment only on 90 per cent of the Property Showings.

downtown Los Angeles from the 110 Freeway

It would be nice to get a phone call, text or an e-mail from the prospective home buyer or the agent representing the home buyer that they are running late. Never the less, most of us Realtors understand that there are uncontrollable circumstances such as the Los Angeles Traffic.

I was going to a couple of showings in the morning after "rush hour" i.e.:  after 11:00am and before 1:30pm. How is your Traffic in your part of the world? By the way Traffic was light during this day.

Living around the Washington DC area always makes life interesting with traffic. I do remember some interesting experiences in the past, when visiting California.

We used to live in LA, Endre, so that traffic looks very familiar. Now when we run into traffic it's nothing like that :)

I grew up there and in 1984 we were all so worried about what the coming of the Olympics would do to traffic.  I was in sales (not real estate) and drove all over the city.  What a treat to discover and about 75% (probably an exaggeration)  of the inhabitants of LA split town to avoid all the fuss.

The freeways were almost empty!  It was like Godzilla had come and wiped everyone away.

David Glad you had a Taste of Los Angeles Traffic:) BTW the Beltway Traffic is probably up there when it comes to Pain tolerance:)

Toni I am sure this is something you do not miss: BTW this is the best time to drive...

Margaret now we worry about "carmageddon" July 16 & 17th there will be a 10 mile stretch of  I-405 between the 101 Freeway and the 10 Freeway which will be closed:)

Endre - I used to think S. Cal had the worst. But at least I can see space between the cars here.  Our area - not so much. I'll have to take a phone one of these times :)

Endre,  I remember the traffic in LA.  I also grew up in NYC so I'm totally familiar with traffic.  Living in Boca has changed that though. Thankfully, we don't have that kind of traffic.

Great idea for a blog!  I did a similar one once when I was stuck at the bridge.

Elyse, I used to drive in from Connecticut to NYC and in those days I was young and foolish, needed good Reflex & Great Breaks to survive:) Here in LA it is similar you just do not need the Horns:)

I'm a small town guy. I've never lived where there is heavy traffic. My commute is from my livingroom to my den office and a big day of touring might not take me 60 miles total.

Endre --- I read some posts here on Active Rain with agents showing properties in multiple counties -- can you imagine that on a Southern California weekday?    Just another reminder that all real estate is local.

Endre, I've been to sunny CA a few times...not recently though...and traffic was always a problem.  Of course Chicago traffic wasn't a cake walk either...glad I don't have to deal with that kind of traffic now.

Michael, the joke is every place you go in LA is 45 minutes away I think that should be the Rule legth of time vs distance:))

Nick the challenge is knowing when to go which direction, always opposite traffice;)

Endre: I can so relate! As a commuter that needs to be in the office most days, my drive is only about 15 miles. It can take 30 minutes, an hour, or an hour and a 1/2... no matter what traffic app you have for your phone. I thought when the kids got out of school that would lighten things up, and it did for a couple of days. But, with tourists and the road crews kicking to do repairs it's almost worse. Yet, when I'm reading the universe more correctly, I take the back roads. I may not save any time but it's a more enjoyable trip with lots of photo opps!

Rene, I am with you generally I never take the Freeways, instead I like the surface roads....I get to see homes, nice front yards....better than the pictures I just posted here:))
