It may not seem like it just by glancing around the house, but there are actually health benefits to choosing hard surface flooring versus carpeting. While carpeting may feel good on bare toes, there are many dangers lurking under that soft surface. Whether you suffer from allergies, have immune system issues, or simply want to have a healthier lifestyle bare flooring is definitely the way to go.

Carpet holds and traps dirt, mold, dander, and even fungus. There are all kinds of mites and the related fecal matter that live deep within a carpeted surface. Any time the carpeting gets wet it becomes a haven for mold spores. While there are some impressively powerful vacuum cleaners on the market, there is not a single one yet that can literally pull all of the contaminants from a carpeted surface.

Every time you lay on the carpeting, walk on it with bare feet, or sit on it you are literally touching one of the most difficult to clean surfaces of the house. You don't have to even touch it in order to be affected by the problems that are lurking in the fibers. When you do vacuum the carpets you are stirring up all of the contaminants that you can't suck up. As this happens these contaminants can be spread through the air. Irritation of the eyes, lungs, and throat are really quite common in the hours after vacuuming.

A hard floor is much easier to clean. You can literally disinfect the surface with a cleanser and a fresh mop head. A bit of hot water to help kill the germs is much easier to do on a hard floor surface. With just a simple scrub you can eliminate the germs that are brought in throughout the day.

Carpet cleaners use moisture. Even the "dry" carpet cleaners use a small amount of moisture to help lift out the visible dirt. While this is certainly helpful when it comes to making the carpet look cleaner it is actually detrimental to making the carpet cleaner in reality. The moisture traps in the mold, mites, and other contaminants and then encourages more to follow. The carpeting remains moist for quite some time allowing additional mold spores and other dangerous elements to develop.

Carpeting can look nice and feel good and still be a haven for the contaminants that can cause serious allergy problems and encourage the development of lung problems. Hard surface flooring allows daily sanitation to be effective, fast, and easy.
