Most who read my blog know that I coach the Sandpoint High School tennis team (when I'm not playing full-time Realtor). As a result, I get a fair amount of inquiries about the availability of "tennis properties" here. In fact, I get a fair amount of inquiries asking if anyone "really" knows how to play tennis in North Idaho.
The answers are...we DO have many tennis-oriented properties available at any given time and, yes, we do play real tennis in North Idaho. In fact, we have a VERY active tennis community! The Sandpoint Tennis Association has about 80 active members who play in a variety of locally sponsored tennis leagues during the summer. The Sandpoint High School team has become a North Idaho powerhouse. Even though Sandpoint is a 4A school ( four-year enrollment of 640 to 1,279 ), we were able to defeat every 4A & 5A school ( four-year enrollment of 1,280 or more ) in North Idaho. Sandpoint also won the District Championship for the third straight year and sent a record 12 players to the State Tournament in Boise!
There are 8, impeccably maintained, public courts in Sandpoint (the City Parks Director is an avid tennis player), two of the MOST scenic courts in the world at Schweitzer Mountain and several private courts. Playing tennis on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille at Sandpoint City Beach is something that MUST be experienced to be believed.
