Don't Ever Give Up That Childhood Wonder

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

Childhood WonderI have lately whether they be close people I know or real estate clients or Associates been around a lot of folk crossing those birthdays to newly be minted at 30, 40, 50, or 60. A new decade for some is another point of reflection. Some lament the good old days of being younger. Or their new aches and pains. I encourage everyone

Don't Give Up That Childhood Wonder.

Age truly is JUST a number. Granted you want good health so work on that part. But if you were not labeled with a number wouldn't you still be active in the mind?

Why give up fun? Why give up zest of life just cause of some NUMBER???

Are you giving up learning new stuff and doing stuff? Former President George Herbert Walker Bush jumping out of airplanes with parachuting into his 80's said he wanted to be an example to younger people that older people DO STUFF. I hope we all DO STUFF as we get older even having pillow fights or jump on beds with enthusiasm. I heard a funny story about this 52 year old man sunbathing au naturel on the nude beach in Jamaica. Why? Cause he was DOING STUFF, and flat out didn't care anymore about what people thought. Well that might be an extreme case of the childhood wonder but I liked his attitude anyway.

BE A YOUNGSTER your whole life. Maybe not a Peter Pan syndrome of NEVER growing up, but in your mind always ALIVE in the world.... it will stretch you years even more. Laugh, sing, dance, BE YOUNG always. It beats the alternative of being a grumpy old man or a cat lady LOL.

I love what you have written.  It is no time to give up the childhood wonder.  I think that is why I love being with my grandchildren so much.  I love to go to Disney.  Yes and let's not give up the American Dream.

Oh yeah!  The big "50" this year!  Ha ha ha!  Not feeling much like an old foggie!  Rather new, refreshed, revitalized, time for me to pursue what I want to do, to see, or to be!  Look out world!  I'm ready to dig my toes in the sand, or squish them in the mud, or have a waterfight!  I am ready for some me time,..... can you say midlife?  ;-).  What?  A little too much?  Hey, that is what childlike is all about!

Hi Gary - I don't think about my age - inside I don't feel as old as my birthdays indicate, and I intend to ignore what my birth certificate says and just keep working and having fun!

Childhood blunders and wonders...when my daughter was little, she used to ask elderly people: 'how young are you?' I tried to tell her that was rude, but she reasoned that they always asked 'how old are you?' to children---so she thought this was the correct thing to say. Thanks for the post!

Gary, I'm all over that!!!!  People will always ask me "how old was ________? And I don't usually know, because I don't look at people that way.  My spiritual age changes all of the time...moment to moment.

My mom will be 80 on July 7th. I NEVER look at her and think, Oh my gosh, EIGHTY--S**T SHE'S OLD! Because she doesn't feel that way. Humor, a good attitude, exercise, moderation in most everything (I can't say that about smoking--SORRY NO CIGARETTES, EVER....)keeping your mind active--dancing is supposed to do that because you are learning steps, routines and therefore using your mind while toning your body. Mom still dances with women her age and is aiming for 120--she thinks she'll make it. You never know, she COULD!

Gary- If you see life through the eyes of a child with the experience of an adult- you have the best of both! Kids bring out the inner child in us all- their sense of wonderment. awe, and eagerness to discover the world around them. We can learn as much from them as they will learn from us.

Enjoyed this post.  I always have enjoyed yours. I have been preoccupied for a while but am back in the AR swing and look forward to reading more.  I am a "wonder" person particularly when it comes to nature.

Gary I have a mental block where I cannot count my age anymore. When people and friends ask I have to think and calculate it out, taking a few minutes. They think its amnesia or fear of growing old. I tell them its just a number and no longer important to me.
