How can I photograph Fireworks? Tips on how to photograph firework displays.

With the 4th of July coming up, I know I will have my camera out and ready to catch some great photos of the magnificent fireworks I see. However I spend half the time trying to figure out what settings I should have my camera on to get the fireworks to even show up! I did some research and I found some helpful tips. Keep them in mind when shooting the spectacular firework shows Houston has to offer.
1. Use a Tripod. Doing so will keep the camera steady and in a spot that you can make sure to get a good shot.
2. Shoot with a zoom lens to get a wider focal length to ensure fireworks to be in the shot.
3. If you can adjust your aperture make sure to keep it at f8 or f16. Fireworks transmit a lot of light so letting in more light than necessary may cause the photos to be too bright and you will be unable to see the fireworks.
4. Choose a shutter speed in which the lens closes during the length of the time you hold the shutter button. Faster shutter speeds do not work well when photographing fireworks.
5. Turn off your flash. The flash wouldn't really have anything to light except for some smoke which would distract from the real action.
