9 Comments on Social Media - Is it Truely for Everyone?
I limit mine to Active Rain and a little bit of Linkedin. Facebook and twitter where short lived for me.
Joanne, we can do a little blogging and social media stuff but there are very few who are really good at it like sports, dancing and everything else IMHO. Just seek your own level where you are comfortable and do what makes you feel good.
Rob - yes I think I will leave twitter to the texting generation, my activerain is linked to it, but spending much effort beyond that is beyond me... One of my friends just got a great consulting opportunity through linkedin, so it does what it is meant to at times.,,, ActiveRain is the one portion of social media I do really "get" - we are lucky that as an industry we have such a tool...
Al, thanks for your sage advice - I had to google IMHO - In My Humble Opinion - according to t he urban dictionary... now that is one part of the internet I am totally immersed in - I am a googlegirl... perhaps my favorite part of new century...
Joanne--nice post and the article from The New York Times is really interesting. I had never really thought about how much time and effort should be invested in those services that people use only sporadically. I guess I use my Social Media pages more as place holders, but this does make me rethink some of my goals.
Yeah, I have been doing the same - knowing that a placeholder is of little use but hoping I would find the time and initiative to go back to making an impact... At least I did some work when I first started on activerain, but it has been awhile... I actually got a publisher interested in my writing a book through my blog - they paid me some to put together a plan, but it hasn't really gone anywhere... You'd think that would have got me psyched... :-0 - it did for a while but then life got in the way.
Joanne very enlighting post. Yes, I've tried keeping up with all the social media outlets and realized that my business was built on face to face contact, phone calls and my spear of past and present clients. So back to basic's and feeling much better these days, not to mention business is back on track!
Thank heaven for that, Stephen, this time last year it had just started back and I am in a much better place today than a year ago... very grateful...
Hi Joanne, thanks for your openness about really trying to figure out if Social Media works for you! It really can be a challenge to keep up with it all while still trying to do your job! As real estate virtual assistants, we have clients come to us all the time who are in the same boat. It can feel like you're being pulled in a hundred different directions and sometimes you just have to pick and choose what works for you! We just wanted to stop by and encourage you as you pick back up with blogging and your social media. We've seen it work so well for many of our clients- some of which are not agents, but in the real estate field in some way. If you would like any help with your endeavor or just have any questions about social media that you'd like answers to; we'd love to help. We can take any of your social media sites and keep them going for you, or just help you get started. Feel free to contact us if you want, but if not, we understand and wish you the best!
Joanne, I happen to be the 9th comment - so you're doing something right! Within the last two years SM has skyrocketed in so many different directions. A good number of us are still searching for the right fit. I find the true challenge is letting go of the ego when having to ask your babysitter to program your phone:)
